Worried about bad breath

Recommended Posts

So for the first time in my life, I find myself chatting it up less. I am so skeptical that because I am not getting all the nutrients necessary to keep it fresh or by the least neutral.

I am afraid to constantly use my mouth wash as often because I often end up swallowing some and I'm not trying to harm my brand new stomach.

Any advice? I get so upset at people when they do not take care of their hygiene and certainly do not want to become a hypocrite.

Ketosis can give you bad breath. I have fasted often in the past and know this to be true. It seems you are early on. When you get into a bigger variety of foods in future phases it should alleviate the problem.

I don't have advice, but wanted to let you know that I have had the same worries! Since starting the pre-op liquid diet, I have an awful taste in my mouth all the time. I am so scared I have bad breath! I just use breath mints and brush my teeth a lot! Good Luck!

No, not everyone. I did but there are others on here who said they never did.

I think it comes with the territory. I believe it has a lot to do with ketosis and acid reflux. It's horrible. I brush up to 5 times a day, rinse with mouth wash and constantly am chewing gum. My mouth always tastes horrible. Plus the acid is eating the enamel off my teeth.

I've learned mints and mouth spray will become one of my best friends during this process! I always have something in my pocket or purse, never leave home without it! Lol

Thanks guys, I spoke to my nurse today and she said-drink a lot of water...,says it neutralizes it. Lets see. So uncomfortable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
