I was sleeved 4 weeks ago tomorrow on 4/9. The whole process was really easy for me, almost no pain from surgery, no gas pain, no nausea, I was able to walk right away it was all pretty easy. The first 9 days I dropped weigh fast, I went down 24 pounds which was amazing and scary at the same time as I was afraid it was "too good" so to speak. Unfortunately that seems to be the case, since that initial weight loss I have only lost 2 pounds. I know its not all about the pounds and I know its common to stall......but is this common? I never meausred myself but I know my body has changed so that is positive but I have to say I

am concerned.

A little about my history. I have NEVER been thin, I have always carried extra weight and it has been a mystery. I eat very healthy with an occasional (maybe once month) splurge on some type of junk food like chicken fingers, pizza or chinese food, but again it is very occasional. Up until 3 years ago I was weighing in the 160's, this was eating right almost al the time and running about 5 miles 4-5 times a week. Then I got sick and since that time my health has continued to decline, I am not physically able to run at all and excercise has to be strictly supervised and approved and thats only when i'm well enough to attempt to excercise. Fast forward to surgery day I weighed 220 pounds......the only thing that kept me in the 160's was my vigorous excercise. The surgery was to help relieve the pressure on my joints and hopefully make me feel better and be able to be more active and less tired.

Now here I am today, wondering if even with this surgery, will I not be able to lose weight. I am anal about getting my fluids and Protein in, I am walking every day and doing the bike at the gym

I am feeling very discouraged.....if anyone has been in a similar place I would love to hear your feedback.

I may be totally off base here, but it seems you started with a lower starting weight than many of us. Generally people who weigh more are able to lose faster...is it possible that could be the case for you? Just throwing it out there :)

I started at 224, had my surgery Nov. 29th and am now down 57lbs. I was discouraged because it felt like my weight was coming off very slow. I just did the best I could and let it go. Now I am finally feeling like a real dent has been made. I am losing maybe 1.5 lbs a week, but it keeps coming off and other than walking I am not exersizing. Hope this helps in some way. I know that I was discouraged too but it keeps coming off slowly.

I'm a slow loser to. I probably do around 2 pounds a week. At first that sucks but hey it goes and goes and goes. I have also hear that the 3 or 4 week mark is a common sport for a first stall. It will keep going as long as you work your program. Just keep to it.

Very true, I will be happy if I start losing 2 pounds a week...thanks for your feedback!

Yes I was probably on the lower end, I am hoping that maybe I am a slow loser. Also I am trying to think that a total of 26 pounds over 4 weeks is good.....I would just love to see the scale move even a little :)

I think it is normal. You lost 24 pounds quickly, now your body has to recover (or something, I don't know what it actually does, lol). Seriously, you can only hang on to weight for so long until your body will start to burn stored fat for energy. I had a couple of weeks where I lost nothing. I lose a little at a time, and it all adds up, and averages out. It's an unrealistic expectation that we will sustain a super rapid loss. I know that some people do, but I think that's exception. Having a realistic expectation is half the battle in this process. I admit that I did not have realistic expectations at first, and thought I could/should continue losing .5-1 pound a day. Now that I have accepted that it can't happen, I'm a lot less irritated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
