Anyone have WLS with their spouse?

Recommended Posts

My spouse and I are both going to have the VSG, but not sure if we should do it at the same time or not. Should we have it the same day or wait awhile in between?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi! My husband and I both had our sleeves the same day. It made preop dieting and postop adjustments easier. The only problems we've encountered are 1: men loose weigh so much faster than women. It's hard to watch him drop weight so fast. I actually gained 10lbs immediately postop and he was all slim! Luckily, things are evening out. 2: I'm running into some postop complications and have not been able to eat like he can, which is infuriating for me. We've argued because we're now going through 2 different postop experiences. Aside from that, going through this whole process together has made us closer. I'm lucky to be doing this with my best friend! Good luck to you and your husband!

My husband and I both had the procedure. His surgery was Jan 7 and mine was March 12. The reason we had it at different times was due to ability to get off of work. It worked out fine that way for us. I was able to take care of him for recovery and then when I had my surgery he could take care of me. It's awesome that we both had the surgery. Now, we share food if we go out to eat and both of us understand each other so well.

The only one in my family who is having problems is my 16 year old. She says there is never any food in the house anymore :) She's fine...she just misses my Paula Deen style cooking!

There are pluses and minuses to both options. My husband (fiddleman) had the sleeve done last July and I was going to do it six months after him but it will end up being about a year apart- I'm shooting for June sometime. The case I would make for doing it separately would be recovery time, especially if you have children or household duties to take of. Yes, you won't be flat on your back for weeks, but your energy level will be a lot lower than normal and a lot of your time will be taken up with just sipping Protein Shake or Water to stay fed and hydrated, timing medication and Vitamins etc. I'm glad I didn't do it together because our house and garden would have ended up being a total wreck! If you can have someone stay with both of you for the first week or so to help out with things, then I would say try doing it together. It's so nice to be at exactly the same stage, going to the same appointments together and can encourage one another. I've dealt with fleeting feelings of jealously and worry- now that hubby is thinner, getting all the compliments and shrinking before my eyes and I'm not, will he still be interested in me, what if things change in our relationship, etc. Thank God for a rock solid loving husband! What you choose really depends on your preference and situation but just some things to think about. I'd like to hear experiences from other couples too!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
