I hate the quote everyone is using "nothing tastes as good as skinny will feel" ..what if skinny doesnt feel good? Does anyone suffer with post weight loss body image problems. Maybe its just me but sometimes I look at before and after pics and think most looked better before. Of course if you feel good that's all that matters and im not trying to put down anyone. I'm sorry if you have heard me talking about this already but really worried about this. I know its for health reasons but as humans we do care about looks too and I personally think people with meat on their bones look better. Anyone else feel this way. Btw I'm still

I just mean I like the way I look now I have pretty high self esteem. ..but I'm also one of those people who thinks everyone is beautiful. As a society we use the word fat as an insult and skinny as a compliment. I'm just worried.

Well.. If you have a high self esteem and like the way that you look why wouldn't you like yourself after losing weight?

And if you think everyone is beautiful why do you think most people here looked better in their before pics?

I guess the question is...Are you sure that you want or need this surgery?

Well, I would advise you not to do said surgery. If you like the way you look...it's senseless to do a surgery that will have you lose 75% of excess body weight.

I'm doing the surgery for health reasons not looks which is why everyone should. I usually like the before pics but that is a personal preference only just as someone may prefer a blonde or a brunette or someone tall or short, people have preference to body size too. People can say they prefer skinny over fat all they want but the moment someone says the opposite people think its weird.

I wrote this topic for support to ask if anyone suffers with body image issues, if you don't that's great (I have no clue if I will) but please dont put me down and tell me not to get the surgery. I was hoping not to be judged but we live in an odd society that the moment I say im fat and have confidence people question me

I have tried the traditional methods but know I need to be down at least 100lbs to be healthy so the sleeve is the right choice I was just wondering how others cope. Its obvious you guys dont have these issues.

I am not telling you not to do it, just reminding you of the average weight loss. I am sorry if you thought my advise was discouraging.

The views expressed by me, are not endorsed by anyone else. If I loved the meat on my bones, I would keep it.

To each is own, I only judge myself....

I didn't see anything that was putting you down. Just bewilderment as to why you would considering subjecting yourself to a permanent commitment to a lifestyle change if you are already content with your weight and appearance.

I, too, did it for health reasons, but, the only body image problems I've heard of is self-loathing and not being able to see oneself as thinner. I was content with my appearance before, but with the energy surges I've experienced the past week, I can already tell that I'm feeling better! I'm extending my life and feeling generally better. I figure if a byproduct of this is that my husband will have arm candy, then great! He deserves that.

If you are choosing this to improve your health, good! You will be successful.

And I dont mean to be judging anyone I just mean if I'm looking at physical attraction from me to someone else. I am 23 and a close friend of mine died at 25 from a heart attack so that was definetly a wakeup call. If being obese didnt come with health issues I probably wouldnt do it

I felt the same way as you. Looking at the old "me" may be not as appealing but beautiful in its own way. Now I have lost 70lbs and a new beauty came out in all sorts of ways. You become a new image. I did make the decision for health reasons and I knew quickly I wanted to be healthy and alive for my kids.

I learned to pick out outfits that would never fit me then so although I was feeling fine about my image I also was in a big person world. Hope this makes sense.

Society and people are visual in many ways . Some people are and some aren't but one thing I know is you accept yourself and the right people will be in your life

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
