hopingtolose2013 81 Posted May 6, 2013 I have bcbs and I was told I had to have 35% BMI...is that at time of weigh in at the surgeons office...or is it a history of over 35?
Rena's got this 274 Posted May 9, 2013 I have BCBS of Alabama. Under their rules you have to have 40 BMI for the past 3 years, or a 35 BMI with a co-morbidity...again, for the past 3 years. It is confusing to me though. What if I had a 35 BMI but the co-morbidity was just recently diagnosed??? Anyway they also require a 6 month physician monitored diet. For the BMI, they use the date that you weighed in with your surgeon if you've already met with him/her. So even if you lose weight and get under the BMI, it doesn't matter, your BMI was already set with your surgeon's office.
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted May 9, 2013 It really depends on your policy. They are all different, but you can get your information by calling them. They will probably send you something in writing.
