Suddenly able to stick to a diet?

Recommended Posts

I am still preparing for my surgery on the 16th, but I am starting to get nervous. I have tried diets in the past but was never able to stick it and always gained the weight back. Will the Sleeve really work? Or is it a forever diet? I can handle eating normal with restriction to a certain amount but diet diet scares me. If dieting worked for me I would already be skinny.

I'm 7 weeks out and I log all my food and yes, I stick to a set amount of calories/protein grams etc.. but OMG it's SO MUCH EASIER than in the pre-sleeve world..

I have my surgery on Monday at noon. I'm getting very, very nervous for the first time. I'm actually on-line searching for reasons not to do this! I have a bad case of the jitters with a side of cold feet. On to your question;I'm curious about the diet part too also I'm wondering how many people have to take ant-acids after their surgery. So sorry for hijacking.

It is easier, I think for me bc I don't feel like I'm starving. I still having issues reprogramming myself. Like eating bc bored, or others eating. Not eating junk all the time, less fast food etc.

I was required to take an acid blocker for the first month following surgery and then play it by ear from there.. I haven't had any acid problems since I stopped taking it three weeks ago. If I do have any issues, I just need to take a 14 day course of omeprezole (sp?) from walgreens and go from there. There ARE certain foods that for me do trigger reflux.. or at least they did in the pre-sleeve world, fortunately it was all food that I'm avoiding now anyway so no problems for me!

It is so much easier to stick to a healthy eating plan-- because you really do get so full- on a very small amount of food. Just always eat your Protein first. By the time you are done with that- you won't want anymore. It is awesome. I had my surgery January 14, 2013-- I have lost 75 pounds already. No regrets. Good luck.

I know the word diet is scary. The week before surgery I started devising ways not to do surgery after reading the forums and seeing what looked to be diet behavior. Counting calories and carbs was not what I wanted to do! The funny thing is that the surgery enabled me to "diet". I saw results quickly. This was nothing like depriving myself for six weeks and having nothing to show for it. I had almost instant results. This was so encouraging finally calorie cutting actually worked. The truth of the matter is if you want to lose weight you have to eat less and be mindful of how you are eating. My sleeve makes it easier. We should come up with another word other than diet it has too many negative connotations. For now I am so grateful to be successfully dieting :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
