Two weeks post with burning pain under incision sometimes?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it's normal. From what I've read, it seems to be.

It's near the incision by my belly button, and it's like a tearing, burning pain that is worst any time I use my abs, like getting up from sitting, turning in bed, etc.

Is this something to do with the inner sutures, muscles healing, scar tissue, or what?

I'll be two weeks out tomorrow. About when should I expect it to stop? I'm taking Tylenol and using a heating pack but it's still bothersome.

I'm on day 18. I feel tenderness on my left side when I lay on it. Just started last night, but no burning sensation. It might be the healing process for you, or it might be an infection brewing (inflammation from what?). I concur. Call your surgeon. Err to caution.

I'd put in a call to your doctor, at least. The incision to the R of my navel has always been waaay more painful than the others (I was on the table at this time a week ago), and my dr says this is where he withdrew the discarded part of my stomach. Due to its size it can tear the muscle a bit on the way out, and I had to have a couple of internal stitches... perhaps everyone does. I didn't ask.

Thanks guys. I'm not too worried. I feel fine otherwise and just checked my temperature to be safe and it was good.

I'm gonna call my nurse tomorrow to double check though!

I had that burning awful pain on my lower right side for at least three weeks....the dr said it was normal! But to give you ease of mind you can ask your dr.

I asked my dr. about this one week out and he said they put internal stitches to close the fascia. Perhaps that is what it is. My pain was a sharp hot poker. I am almost 2 weeks out and it has lessened every day.

I had the same pain for almost a month after surgery. When I called my Dr they had me come in " just to be safe" and while pushing on my new belly it was very painful. They did a CT to look for a blood clot on the incision site. Everything turned out fine but I will say I was glad they did the CT, everyone is worried about a leak or clot and to be able to rule it out and be sure its just normal surgery healing pains gave me peace of mind.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
