BriDawn 79 Posted May 6, 2013 Just wondering if it's normal. From what I've read, it seems to be. It's near the incision by my belly button, and it's like a tearing, burning pain that is worst any time I use my abs, like getting up from sitting, turning in bed, etc. Is this something to do with the inner sutures, muscles healing, scar tissue, or what? I'll be two weeks out tomorrow. About when should I expect it to stop? I'm taking Tylenol and using a heating pack but it's still bothersome.
Chelenka 827 Posted May 6, 2013 I think you should call your Dr. That doesn't sound normal yo me. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.
SqueakyWheel&Ethyl 160 Posted May 6, 2013 I'm on day 18. I feel tenderness on my left side when I lay on it. Just started last night, but no burning sensation. It might be the healing process for you, or it might be an infection brewing (inflammation from what?). I concur. Call your surgeon. Err to caution.
Sydney Susan 333 Posted May 6, 2013 I'd put in a call to your doctor, at least. The incision to the R of my navel has always been waaay more painful than the others (I was on the table at this time a week ago), and my dr says this is where he withdrew the discarded part of my stomach. Due to its size it can tear the muscle a bit on the way out, and I had to have a couple of internal stitches... perhaps everyone does. I didn't ask.
BriDawn 79 Posted May 6, 2013 Thanks guys. I'm not too worried. I feel fine otherwise and just checked my temperature to be safe and it was good. I'm gonna call my nurse tomorrow to double check though! 1 SqueakyWheel&Ethyl reacted to this

But to give you ease of mind you can ask your dr.
JShaw 22 Posted May 6, 2013 I asked my dr. about this one week out and he said they put internal stitches to close the fascia. Perhaps that is what it is. My pain was a sharp hot poker. I am almost 2 weeks out and it has lessened every day.

pammycakes 114 Posted May 6, 2013 I had the same pain for almost a month after surgery. When I called my Dr they had me come in " just to be safe" and while pushing on my new belly it was very painful. They did a CT to look for a blood clot on the incision site. Everything turned out fine but I will say I was glad they did the CT, everyone is worried about a leak or clot and to be able to rule it out and be sure its just normal surgery healing pains gave me peace of mind.
