Why is carbonated bad?

Well some doctors will tell you never to drink it again.. Some will say its ok after a certain amount of months.

Soda is a very hotly debated topic around here and there is usually lots of fighting going back an forth between the two camps.

It is thought by some that it will damage your stomach in the beginning (carbonation expanding in your stomach) and also that we don't have that much room anymore so why waste it on junk food??

Then there are people that believe everything in moderation...

Me? I don't know.. I know that it hurts some people to drink it and others drink a bit just fine..

I don't know what my doctors felt about it because I quit it over a year ago.

So I usually just tell the person asking, "ask your surgeon what he or she feels about it."

My surgeon said " it would be best to wait until my stomach regrew; just to be on the safe side!"

I am going to be 5mths po. I have had soda, but I can only have a sip bc of all the bubbles. It causes me some discomfort so I just take a good drink and I am completely satisfied. Even if I wanted to drink a whole 12oz can, I just can't anymore. I'm so glad.

OMG GRINDERS.. not girders! and Drinking fountains are properly called Bubblers..... And clam chowder must never EVER EVER have tomatoes in it... Are you writing this down?

Autocorrect. I did type "grinders"... I often wonder about Apple and their idea of spellcheck.... Although, it just goes to show that spellcheck knows they're subs too! :-P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
