Day 23 post op, can't keep most food down, throwing up bile.

Recommended Posts

Ugh! My daily food intake consists of pretty much Gatorade, Popsicles and a few crackers. Once I take a few bites of anything of substance like Soup, eggs, tuna fish (and I chew very well) I usually end up throwing up which mostly consists of bile. I know this is gross but has anyone else had any experiences like this? I see my doctor tomorrow but wanted to put this out there. I'm really glad this forum is here. Thanks all!

I think this is something that would better be answered by your doctor.. The advise mine gave on the diet is to always revert back to the liquids if you where having issues and try again in another week or so.

Thanks I usually always revert back to my liquids when this happens. The only plus side is I've lost 23 pounds in 3 weeks.

That happened with me, I couldn't advance as others did, I could be that with you. I'd go back to what keeps you from throwing up for a while. If it continues then it could be a structure, I was throwing up at 6 weeks still. Listen to your body and talk to your doctor, they'll keep an eye on it. Good luck!!

Just got back from my follow up appointment and my doctor concurred with the dietician that I should stay on full liquid for an extra week before I advance. He said its normal as my stomach is adjusting to what I can and cannot tolerate. Good news is I'm down 23lbs! Thanks all for your input and experience, I appreciate it'

I'm in the same boat, but I'm almost 7 weeks out. I thought my issues were due a lot to reflux, but last week my surgeon changed my PPI and it has gotten slightly better. I try to get in fluids as much as possible, but I just feel I'm depleting my body!

Same here Jenny! I feel like I'm depleting my body and the only thing that is keeping me mentally on track if you will, is the weight that I'm losing. I was finally able to finish an entire chononi yogurt this evening which made me feel better since its 14g of Protein.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
