What veggiesncan you eat?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I curious as to what veggies your drs have approved at your various stages. Right now, I'm almost two weeks out and about to start my purée stage. The only veggie options I have been given are: carrots, beets, cauliflower, yams, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, hubbard squash, and V8 juice. Of these, the only ones that don't make me gag, are potatoes, and V8 juice.

When could and did you progress to edible vegetables? I'm a big fan go salad vegetables, and have my own garden for these.

Thanks!

Unfortunately most veggies are too fibrous at this stage and any veggies you do eat should be cooked until they are soft. Undigested Fiber can get stuck in your stomach and cause a lump called a Bezoar which leads to other problems. My best advice is to be patient. You'll be eating more in no time, when your body is ready. = )

Veg is another one of those big variables between people - some can go quicker on them than others, so try them a little at time to see how you do with them. Remember, Protein first - I was doing well enough on protein that my doc was adding veg to my diet at day ten, and I was having small salads with leftover meat in them by the end of the first month. YMMV.

Since you are getting along with the V8 juice, try the low sodium version as that as double the amount of potassium as the regular juice (which we need and don't get to any usable degree in our OTC supplements, ) and is the best non-prescription source that I have found so far.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
