Dr's note from Dr in Mexico ?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was thinking should I ask the Dr for a note to be out of work an extra week or two just in case I feel like hell? Would an employer be likely to say they don't accept a Dr's note from a Dr in another country? Especially since it was not an emergency or otherwise required procedure? I don't want to ask my boss because I don't want to put the idea in her head to not accept the note. I'm having surgery on a one week vacation and I can't get an extension.

I fully expect to be fine to return to work and my boss & supervisor ( but no one else) know I am having surgery.

Hopefully this is needless worrying, I'm not really even worried, just trying to cover all bases.

I was on paid leave from work and my employer didn't have issue with the fact that my surgeon was out if the country.

I only took 1 week off from my classes, and I was able to return after that time, but I would caution you that everyone's experience is different.

I'm not sure about a doctor's note, though.

I went for a long recovery even though I really didn't need it. I took 5 weeks off and enjoyed the vacation.

I had no problems with a note from Mexico and my state disability paid with no problems.

It's illegal for an employer to deny medical leave. A Physician releases you and it's not the employers role to question the credentials of your physician. We are all entitled to choose our own personal physicians, regardless of the location.

I work in HR in CA. An employer shouldn't say anything more than, "I hope you get better soon!"

I went around my boss directly to HR to ask for the leave requirements.

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
