Recommended Posts

Hi... I'm working on gathering I need for my post op but can't find any yogurt or Greek yogurt that is sugar free. I'm in the South Fla area....checked Publix, Winn Dixie's and Walart....anyone have an idea!? Just want everything set up for my new adventure! Thanks a million!

I don't think sugar free yogurt exists. Even if you get plain yogurt you will still see sugar in the nutritional facts because yogurt has lactose in it. Lactose is a form of sugar. Anything ending in ose is...fructose, lactose, glucose. Same goes for cheese, milk, etc. Plain yogurt will have no added sugar though...like the ones with fruit added which would be adding fructose which would up the sugar content.

There is no sugar free yogurt because dairy products have natural sugar. What they mean is yogurt with no added sugar. They are usually ones with fruit or fruit flavoring. You can buy plain and add in your own fresh fruit. Things like natural applesauce and mashed bananas work good in the puréed stage. You can also add vanilla or other extracts with a little artificial sweetener.

I am not sure if you have a Kroger in your area but they have whats called Carb Master Yogurt. Only 4 carbs, 8 grams of Protein and 60 calories. Several different flavors. They now have Carb Master milk and lite greek yogurt. All designed to have more protein than standard brands.

Yup, milk products have natural sugars.

Just get plain yogurt. That's what I bought for post-op and it worked well. My nutritionist wanted me to eat greek yogurt because 1 cup has 22g of Protein (although I couldn't eat a whole cup at a time post-op) and she had me Water it down a little when I was in liquid phase.

Fage 0% greek yogurt is my favorite. The others already covered the sugar aspect, but it is really high in Protein, though it's thick, so you'll probably need to wait till you are at the full liquid stage. I still find it very filling at 4.5 months out.

Yes plain fage yogurt make a smoothie by adding 2 ice cubes, 2 frozen strawberries, 6 frozen blueberries, 1 splendia pack and a banana about the size of a pinky and blend

Right you are! If you make your own yogurt, you actually get less lactose than store bought because you control how long the yogurt processes and the yogurt cultures eat up a good portion of lactose.. Store bought yogurt processes for less time and also frequently has added starches for thickness so more sugars. Straining the whey off of yogurt to make greek style yogurt will also reduce the lactose in your yogurt because the whey has a higher proportion of lactose in it than the rest of the yogurt... Oh my gosh, I'm such a nerd.. why do I know this stuff?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
