Molly3 495 Posted May 14, 2013 When did Tricare start covering the Sleeve? I guess I need to call them again before I pay for my surgery! Thanks!
Banned member 320 Posted May 14, 2013 Tricare doesn't pay for the sleeve or at least that's how it was when I had surgery. BUT if you live near a military base you can get the sleeve done on post. If you go to a civilian surgeon the sleeve wont be covered. Do you live close to a military base with a bariatric program? I had my sleeve surgery done on Fort Carson and it didn't cost me anything, plus I didn't have to do the 6 month supervised diet.

JackieV 246 Posted May 15, 2013 I was sleeved at a MTF, no out of pocket costs. The surgeons were fantastic.
Doing It 4 Them 84 Posted May 19, 2013 The base here doesn't but I called Tricare yesterday and also talked with my PCP and they said in my circumstance it will be coveres for mee off base at a civilian bariatric surgen. Are they also covering it because your base doesn't have bariatric? I'm trying to go through Womack in Fort Bragg. I live about 3 hrs away. My dr office has sent in 2 requests for referrals and I've been approved both times to see a local Dr to see if weight loss surgery is necessary. But I don't want to go this route because I know Tricare doesn't cover the sleeve and I was told this by a tricare rep. Womack said my Dr isn't wording the requests correctly so that I can be treated at Womack. They said my Dr needs to send in a request to Tricare to be evaluated and treated on base. I see my family Dr On Friday and I hope I can get this straight. I would be a lot farther in the process if I decided to go gastric bypass, but I really want the sleeve.
