Burning in Left Shoulder Blade?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone ;-) !!!

I'm seven weeks post op and have lost 53 lbs. since surgery. I'm happy with my decision. I am having a few issues and I'm wondering if anyone else is struggling with any of the same issues. I have been suffering with horrible Constipation and have developed hemoroids. Also, I have an uncomfortable burning sensation in my left shoulder blade?

Hi there:

I am almost 3 weeks post-op and I get the pain in my left, upper chest near my left shoulder. I correlate this pain to when I get "too full."

So I've been stopping eating before I get full--then within a few minutes--I do feel "full," but without being over-full and hence no shoulder pain.

Thanks for replying :-) the burning is pretty constant, even on a empty stomach. I'm hoping it will pass soon.

Left shoulder blade is referred pain from the vagus nerve, which gets irritated by a gall bladder attack. Drink lots of Water and use a heating pad or stand in the shower as hot as you can stand it. Talk to your doctor about it.

GALLBLADDER ATTACK SYMPTOMS may include one or more of the following:

chest pain in the right side below the rib cage

pain in the back right shoulder blade

nausea or queasiness

vomiting

gas

belching or burping

You said your pain is in left?? Not right? Correct?

My mom had left shoulder pain when she had gallbladder attacks. Everyone is different but I have seen and known people to get chest pains and shoulder pains on the left. OP: I would just mention this to your doctor.

As far as the constipation and hemorrhoids, either ask your doc for a script for colace (stool softener) or take some milk of magnesia once a day to keep the bowels moving. We're not usually not regular after surgery, and the longer your bowels stay in you, the drier and harder they become, forcing you to strain, thus causing hemorrhoids.

Hey Suko67,

That's correct, the burning is in my left shoulder blade. I saw a doctor covering for my regular doctor and he said that it's referred pain but doesn't know whats causing it. He said if it gets too bad, to go to the ER. It's not that bad. It just feels like a hot poker stuck in there.

Ahhh, yes....GAS had been troublesome to me too post-surgical. Does changing positions or walking help relieve the sharp pain?

I had the left shoulder pain almost every day after eating dinner. It lasted 4 to 5 months but eventually went away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
