I'm trying to find a low cost, cash pay option for a sleeve. I've seen where there is a clinic in Mexico that charges about $8k but would like to find a US option. Anyone know of a place??

Sometimes if your cash pay, they may lower their rate due to the economy right now..... ;)

This is from Mactrio:

I was self pay and had surgery on Monday 3/25/13) I live in Louisiana and my surgery was done by Dr Thomas Borland in New Iberia, La. He does it as out patient surgery and then you stay at a local hotel (I stayed at candlewood suites) and he makes house calls to check on you. My cost was $9,800 plus the cost of the hotel (mine was 2 nights)

I have been extremely pleased with my dr and his staff and the staff at the surgery center. They are professional, friendly & I have no complaints.

I had mine done at wise regional in Decatur Texas, had hernia repair and sleeve cost $7200. The hospital paid for me to stay one night at LaQuinta Inn

How do you not stay in the hospital though? I required IV fluids for a couple days and couldn't leave the hospital.

Sounds to me like these Drs. can do everything you need to at a hotel setting rather than a hospital setting...sounds similar to what the "stars" do when they have surgery.....they stay in hotels rather than the hospital more discrete.

Hospital stays in the US are prohibitively expensive. A 2 night stay in a hospital (like most Mexico surgeries ) could easily add $5-9K to your bill.

I would not feel comfortable having major surgery as an out patient.

That would be Dr. Borland in New Iberia, LA. That's who I'm going to.

I don't know the answer to this question, but I can tell you that you can have IV fluids outside of a hospital. When I was in Lebanon I contracted Ecoli and the village doctor sent me home with an IV bag to rehydrate me. He gave me an extra bag and showed me how to change it... My uncle in the US needed IV antibiotics and he was hooked up in his home as well..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
