When I was banded they told me I wouldn't be hungry either...

Recommended Posts

That wasn't the truth. I could've eaten my right arm at about 48 hrs post op. I literally cheated on my post op liquids phase (was sposed to be on liquids for 4 weeks) - I added mashed potatoes at week 3. But it was different being banded than sleeved. They didn't touch my stomach.

With the ghrelin taken out (I guess that part of the stomach makes about 80% of your bodies ghrelin), I'm not sposed to be hungry, right? Why do I read all these post op stories of people who are starving post op? Now I'm scared I'm gunna be starving.

Were you hungry or not?

I get a little hungry sometimes but not enough to want to cheat. Usually a yogurt or jell-o will put that right to rest. :) I am 5 days post op. :)

I had no hunger for the first 6 - 8 weeks. Then I started having some hunger, so I started taking Prilosec. What I thought was hunger was really heartburn. Now I may get a little hungry from time to time, but never like before surgery. It usually takes a few bites of food for me to be full again.

I wasn't at all for the 1st 2 months post-op. At 4 months, I feel "empty" when it's time to eat. I have not had hunger "pangs" or been at all ravenous since before surgery. This is the beauty of the sleeve- it allows you to know when you should have a little something, but since you aren't ravenously hungry, you are able to make better choices. That's how it has been for me, at least, and how I am choosing to utilize this tool.

I am now 8 months out. I can easily go until 1:00 pm and not feel hungry. I eat because I know in my head that I need nutrition and fuel.

At 175 lbs, I don't want to lose any more weight. I even throw in a little ice cream if I feel I am too far under my daily calorie goal or if I burned a lot that day.

Hunger, if it ever comes is from boredom or just in my head. Best part, a few bites of anything and I can be satisfied. Trust me, this is the real deal.

I am 2 1/2 months out, and I get hungry. I wish I didn't :( But luckily, it takes a lot less to be satisfied. Unfortunately, I do get ravenous if I go too long without eating. But I don't require volumes of food to satisfy. I'm 43 lbs down.

I am about 6 months out..I do feel hungry if I don't eat for more than a few hours but it doesn't take much for the feeling to subside about 1-2 ounces lean meat or if I am eating something less dense like yogurt 6oz of food:) After that I am good for a few hours. I do have head hunger sometimes but is not actual hunger just boredom so I find something to do:)

My doctor told me that's not hunger but acid. They upped my stomach meds and I'm good. Really.. It's like I have to say dang eat your protein.. Getting the acid under control was major.. Because I thought it was hunger pains.

The further out you go, the more hunger you will experience. It won't be this "if I don't eat right this minute I will pass out" type of hunger, but it is there. It's not gas, nor head hunger. Its the real thing. For me, the first three months, I didn't get hungry and often just forgot to eat. At month 4, you start to feel like it is time to eat something (again no big rush, but it is definitely there). At month 5, you KNOW when you need to eat something but again, if I don't eat, it isn't a big deal. So yes, you will feel hunger, it won't be this big thing that you might have had before and it is easily manageable. I eat 5-6 small meals a day, so I can say, yes I never get hungry, but if I don't do this, then I do feel it.

I don't think anyone should count on not being hungry. No one really knows if it's head hunger or possibly real true hunger. Some have it and some don't.

I really haven't heard any of the long time sleevers 1yr+ say they never get hungry but idk...I know that I do and it is real bc I only ever experience that true hunger feeling when I haven't eaten for long periods .Other times it is just wanting to put something in my mouth

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
