The first 4 days were very hard for me ... I felt so much better after I was released from the hospital ... I'm only 8 days out now, not great but so much better than the first days ... It does get better.

The 2nd day you think you are going to die. You are asking yourself silently if you have made a mistake. You can't say it out loud because you made this decision on your own. Elective... BUT, tomorrow, you will feel better. I promise! And the next day and so on. And when that first 10 pounds is gone, you will think "maybe I did make the right decision". Then, 20 pounds! You did the right thing! Use your pump and remember, this is your future! Congratulations!

5 months post op and the time I woke up in recovery the pain was a hard 9. The pain meds they gave me did not touch it. Then every day it was a little better and by the end of the first week I was fine. Still having trouble getting fluids and Protein in until day 10 when one morning I could drink so I guess the swelling went down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
