I can't wait to fight fire again! I used to be a fire fighter, but because of the weight gain I moved to the administrative side of the department. I can't wait to be back in the heat of it all!

Basketball with my kids and roller coasters. Nothing's as embarrassing as having to get off a roller coaster cause the safety strap won't fit over you.

I am scheduled for May 30th with Dr. Billing in Edmonds at Puget Sound Surgical Center. I hope the rest of your steps to surgery goes well and you get your surgery next month!

So your husband has hiked Mt. Pilchuck...that is near my neck of the woods! Is it an easy hike or something to work up to? I'm hoping to be more active outside this summer with my family and I think we'd all enjoy a little hiking. :)

Thanks leezel- you as well! How exciting you're in your surgery month! My husband says Pilchuck is an intermediate level hike but you can always try it and just go as far as you are able each time. He grew up hiking around Issaquah and in eastern Washington and even heavier he could steam up hills like a locomotive. I'm not much for hiking and with his speed difference it wasn't fun for me. Hopefully that will change after my surgery and we have another activity to do together! Perhaps leezel, we could meet up and visit in person sometime soon- I live in Lake Stevens. PM me if you're interested! Keep responses coming everyone- I love reading them!

How about you? What are you looking forward to?

Running a 3k. Then a 5k. I'll at least be doing the 3k by this time next year.

On weekends, I happen to go to the gym around the time they are doing Zumba. I know, I know, it's mostly women but it's on my bucket list to try at least once. I want to be in better shape and smaller before I try it.

I want to get back into Thai kickboxing. I used to train and fight, but when I started teaching I wasn't getting the training in. That's when the weight really started to pack on. Running 6 miles a day turned into 3 miles, then 3 miles every other day, then nothing. I miss the endurance and energy I had then (this is like 15 years ago).

I also would like to start weight training again. It would be nice to be thin enough to actually see the results of the hard work. I used to be able to move some pretty heavy poundage. There was always a layer of fat that got in the way of seeing any real definition.

I sound like the old guy who pines away for his old football days. Actually, I guess I am the old guy pining away. I don't care though. I'm not afraid of the hard work, I just need some more energy and the knowledge that there will be results from all the effort.

Running for me is at the top of the list. I've not been able to for 8 long years now and with the weight loss, my back will probably be able to handle the stress of it again. I'm also looking forward to taking longer rides on my horse without it killing him or my back.

I've been too heavy to ride a horse for years. Before that I didn't want to- haven't been around horses all that much growing up in the city. Now I really want to learn and can't wait get up on a horse- especially a smaller one that doesn't look like a draft horse! Good luck with your surgery!

I'm scheduled for my consultation with Dr Billing in Edmonds on the 14th. Im looking foward to being able to buy clothes in a "Normal" size and not have to be shamed in to going to a different floor or special store all together.

Asking if they have a plus size section and always being turned down is the worst for me....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
