What will be your fave post sleeve workout you can't do right now?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking forward to joining a masters rowing (crew) team. There's something so peaceful about gliding inches off the Water on a glassy lake or river! I was a member of the Green Lake crew team in Seattle in high school- rowed sweep and skull- singles and quads were my faves. I can't do it right now...my hips would scrape the side of the boat! They'd have to pry me out. How about you? What are you looking forward to?

Golf and softball. I can barely hobble right now. I'm looking forward to being able to walk and run without pain. :-)

I'm looking forward to playing soccer again. Right now my knees hurt with lots of running and my chest is too big even with a sports bra to comfortably run around. By the way, Phoenix79, I'm from the Seattle area too! Do you have a surgery date yet?

I'm looking forward to just being more of an athlete on the basketball court. At 30 years of age and 130kg (286lb) I can almost touch the rim. If my trainer and I can keep the strength in these legs I may just achieve the dream of dunking.

I want to get back into serious hiking (oh, yeah, and I'm in the Seattle area, too - up north in Monroe! Howdy, neighbors!). I also want to ride my bike on something other than relatively level ground.

Ah running...always been an issue for me... even in crew I hated it. Maybe after surgery it will be different. Soccer builds up some awesome leg muscles...that'll be cool! I don't have a date for surgery yet! I have my endoscopy and full bloodwork scheduled for next week. I'm hoping for sometime in June- I'm at Swedish with Dr.Mcmahon. I had to get the results of my sleep study before they wanted me to schedule the endoscopy. My husband had the sleeve as well- last July. He posts frequently on VST as fiddleman and is a constant source of inspiration for me! Do you have a date yet leezel?

You will lose some muscle after surgery but you can build it back and more. I bet you'll be dunking in no time! My husband (fiddleman on VST) can testify that strength training with a personal trainer does pay big dividends after sleeve surgery. He's currently working with a trainer doing crossfit and developing some very nice muscles! :). He runs 5-10k's on his off days and also does yoga. Amazing!

Absolutely! I was trying not to buy anything else before surgery clothing wise, but a upcoming warm weather trip required a trip to LB for shorts and a few cute tropical dresses. When they asked if I wanted to apply for their card, I smiled and said "no thanks, I'm not planning on having to shop here much longer!" What a great feeling!

Cool! We are very close to Monroe ourselves. Have you ever hiked Mt. Pilchuck? My husband (fiddleman) has hiked up there a lot- Lake 22 is another of his favourite spots. I'm trying to have him get a group together to hike with, because it's really not as safe hiking on his own. If you or anyone else in the area wants to start a VST northwest hiking group, contact me or fiddleman!

Running and yoga. I can do yoga already, but I can't bend as far as I know I can because fat's in the way! As for running... oh my poor knees haha.

I am scheduled for May 30th with Dr. Billing in Edmonds at Puget Sound Surgical Center. I hope the rest of your steps to surgery goes well and you get your surgery next month!

So your husband has hiked Mt. Pilchuck...that is near my neck of the woods! Is it an easy hike or something to work up to? I'm hoping to be more active outside this summer with my family and I think we'd all enjoy a little hiking. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
