gibson_girl 108 Posted May 4, 2013 Ok, I've managed to make it through the liquid phase and add in Protein shakes....still love the ones I loved before the surgery. I was told to add in 4 oz of milk day 8 and 9 before I started protein and it went great. So today I went out to buy my favorite non-homogenized grass fed milk and was craving it and going to have 4oz. I took 2 drinks and immediately ran to the bathroom. I thought of all the happy thoughts I could and sipped on some apple juice til I was in the clear. What if I would have been out in public? Any suggestions when it hits this hard? melodymouse 196 Posted May 4, 2013 Curious, which end? Dumping syndrome doesn't usually hit that fast. Are you sure you didn't just overload? Good lesson tho. Try only one new thing at a time so you know what doesn't agree with you and always try it at home!
gibson_girl 108 Posted May 4, 2013 Well the odd thing is that I had already did well with milk twice. This would have been my first sip of my favorite milk that I have drank for years, local farm.......pasteurized but a little cream swirled through. It was definitely trying to come back up the top end. I'm almost 2 weeks post op so I'm terrified of vomiting, otherwise I don't think I could have stopped it. So in short (I'm sure you've all heard worse) I almost threw up on the floor right by my husband. It definitely wasn't overload. I took two small sips and I drink in a cup with ounces printed on it I borrowed from the hospital and I didn't even sip down 1/2 ounce. It was like it tasted that bad to me, out of the blue. I'm so scared that this will happen in public. Eck!
melodymouse 196 Posted May 4, 2013 Your tastes can change after WLS and something you used to love is just gross and gags you. With the cream swirled in, it may have been a little too thick. I love Costco's Premier Protein now but right after surgery, I couldn't get it down and its not all that thick. I also had trouble with plain nonfat milk. It would make my stomach go into spasms. I didn't have trouble with any other dairy products, just the milk. I have no clue why. Give it time. Try one new thing a day so you know which things don't agree with you. It will get better!! gibson_girl 108 Posted May 4, 2013 Thank you, so basically you are saying this could happen at any time and it's just a part of healing? I went from perfectly fine to so grossed out and sick in like 5 seconds. I'll be careful where I try out new stuff!
