Excellent book for bariatric patients...

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon, friends! I wanted to share this with you - I just received a book that I ordered from Amazon dot com and although only half-way through it, I strongly recommend it to all who have had, are having, or thinking about having bariatric surgery.

Honestly, it should be required reading, it is just that good... Here is the book...If you get HALF what I did out of it, it will be worth your money... Have a great weekend!

"The Emotional First+Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery"

by Cynthia L. Alexander, PsyD

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0976852659/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

p.s. If you check out the link on Amazon, click on "look inside" and you can read the table of contents and some random pages... very useful.

I am pre-op but I read this book, as well as most of the other WLS books available for the Kindle, during my research phase. I saved this one to read again later, it was so good! Another great one is The Sleeved Life.

I don't see a book by that name under Cynthia Alexander on Amazon, but there is one my Margaret Furtado - is that the one you're talking about? Do you like the recipes?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
