That's great that it got better for you today! Good luck with eggs tomorrow! I haven't lost anything since last Thursday. Feeling kind of down about that. :-(

Thanks Wags! So sorry 'bout your stall--sounds like it happens right around this time so thinking I need to stop weighing everyday so I too don't get bummed. It will turn around ;)

Soooooo, just got back from the emergency room. I'm fine :). I've been dizzy all day and it got pretty bad tonight. Took my blood pressure and it was 95/65 so my husband insisted we go to ER. I was thinking it was either dehydration (even though I've been doing ok with liquids) or low potassium (ongoing problem for me). Turns out my hydration, potassium and nutrition levels were all good (potassium was highest it's been in awhile). The culprit????? Blood pressure meds. The ER doc wants me to stop taking them, monitor blood pressure (have machine at home) and follow-up with primary. I still let them pump me full of some liquids so I'm feeling great right now!!! It was a scare but luckily nothing bad. Bonus was that my nutrition and electrolytes were in good shape which is nice to know considering my limited food consumption as this point. Guess what I'm eating is good and the Vitamins are doing the trick. B)

Mizzougirl,

I'm so glad you went to the ER. I was really concerned. Glad to hear all levels are well and you are in good shape. Continue to recover at your own pace.

Thanks ladies - gotta admit I was a bit scared there for a bit and am relieved it wasn't anything serious. I feel a ton better today. Just got back from lunch with a former co-worker - first time eating out since surgery. We went to PF Changs and I had a bowl of Egg Drop Soup and 4-5 pieces of edamame. I ate slow and everything went down just fine. Co-worker didn't say anything about what or how little I was eating..... yeah!!!

That's awesome!!! I think we are more self conscious of what and how much we are eating than our friends and family are.

I added puréed tuna yesterday. Omigosh! It was soooo good to me!!!

So I am feeling so discouraged! I've only lost 13lbs since surgery and haven't lost a single pound in 6 days; I dont know what I am doing wrong... I dont think this is normal. I guess because when I read others storys they all seem to say they loose about 30lbs in the first month, and I am trying to figure out why my weight loss has stopped so soon. Anyone else with this problem or have any advice? Hope you ladies are all doing well. Thanks :)

Not sure that this will help but I've read on here that some people stall because they aren't getting enough calories so their body kinda shuts down on them. If you aren't tracking your food on My Fitness Pal, maybe get on there and friend people who are at your same point and are losing more. You can see what they are eating and doing for exercise. My user name on there is rlindameyerhoeffer if you want to add me. Also, Water consumption can play a role too. Make sure you are getting plenty.

Hope things turn around soon!!!!

I am exactly the same. I have not lost anything in 6 days either. I'm pretty sure I was eating too many carbs so I fixed that 2 days ago, but still no movement. I joined my fitness pal last week and I'm friends with Mizzougirl too. My name there is KUWags if you want to add me.

As far as no weight loss, I'm going to keep working the plan because I don't really have a choice. I usually get 500-600 calories so I might try to up those.

Hey everyone...sorry I havent been on layely...work has been crazy busy.

I am doing ok...have done mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, and scrambled eggs ok. Having issues getting in enough liquid. It's hard at work to get it in. I have been having a hard time taking pills, so I am not taking my Vitamins yet. Hopefully get that figured out soon.

I have lost 15 lbs and also need to stop weighing myself so much. I told myself I wouldnt and so its time to put it away so I dont see it everyday.

One day at a time...

Can everyone believe it's been 3 weeks???? In some respects the time has flown by and in others, wish it would hurry up and get to 8 weeks. Anyhow, happy 3 week anniversary to all and hope everyone is happy with their progress thus far.

Today is four weeks since surgery...just went through the dreaded week 3 stall which lasted a full week. Got on the scale this morning and was down 1.5 lbs so I hope I am on the downward trail once again. I know they say the stalls are just part of the journey but it is worrisome when you are only eating 800 calories and nothing moves. Still very excited and looking forward to what comes next..little things are getting easier like getting the work shoes on and getting in and out of my Mini Cooper..Yippee

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
