By my calculations

Recommended Posts

I looked back over my online food tracker at my weight loss; by the time I set up my tracker I had already lost 24 lbs since surgery 5 weeks prior (20 of those lbs were in the first 2 weeks post-op btw), but I just now decided to look back at the bulk (ha ha) of my weight loss and calculate on average, how much weight I lost during my steadiest era of loss. in 13 weeks I lost 50 lbs which averages out to about 3.8 lbs a week, that was from the end of month 2 post-op to the start of month 6. It seems no matter what the F*** I do, no matter how morbidly obese, no matter how faithful and perfect a patient I am, I am one SLOW A$$ EFFING LOSER. -.- *cough* sorry about that, little peeved ...

Even when I still weighed in the high 200's (260s), and was eating 600 calories a day with only 20g carbs, I STILL, was only losing a pound every couple of days.

So, has anyone else done calculations like these? How much did you lose, which period post-op, and how much were you eating?

Oh yeah, I'm a big time tracker. I keep excel spread sheets and try to predictive analysis, lol. It's all futile. I lose on the slow side too, which is exactly how I got in this predicament. I would go on a diet, be MISERABLE, lose a pound or two after a few weeks, and just give up. Now that I can't just give up, what I've learned is that time marches on either way, and I do still lose, sometimes faster than I thought. Also the incessant tracking has shown me that while I think I'm not losing much and have periods of no loss, really a lose a pound or two pretty steadily. Once in a while I see a bigger loss, and sometime 0, but the trend line is going in the right direction. I feel like ranting today because I haven't lost anything in 6 days. I'm at a weight I haven't been able to get below in 25 years, so I figure I might be stuck a bit. You can see my monthly stats below.

I am not post surgery, and it REALLY helps to hear the struggels so I can wrap my head around them.

I kinda think (hope) that it'll be like the pre-op preps. Seemed SO LONG at the start and so quick now that I have a surgery date. This time, I will not weigh myself often. I'll just 'do the stuff I need to do', and watch the belt loops... I can get too wrapped up in data. PS, I'd take a 4# loss a week for darned sure!!!

Yeah, um, that 3.8 pounds per week loss was, if you read my post fully, was during the height of the honeymoon period, I haven't seen loss like that since and comparatively speaking, it's pretty slow for a VSG honeymoon, where people typically lose 50 lbs in the first 3 months not nearly 6.

MichiganChic, it wouldn't let me click on your stats, could you just tell me?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
