Any success stories for the 50's group?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved March 2012. I needed to lose 85-90 lbs. I am still trying to lose the last 25 lbs. I don't know if I ever will, but I am not giving up. Even if I never lose another pound, I don't regret having the sleeve, at all. I just hope that I never gain any weight back. One thing that I was told by my surgeon's nurse, is that it becomes more difficult to lose weight after the first 4 to 6 months. For me, it became harder after 3 months. So, definitely take advantage of that "honeymoon period". At right around the one year mark, I noticed that I have way less restriction, so I have to be real careful to measure food, and not over eat. Best of luck to you.

I was sleeved December 3rd, 2012. It's 5 months today!! I am 59 yo - and only 16 lbs from goal!! You can do it, just follow your medical team's plan. You might hit stalls, but keep to the plan and the weight comes off. Good luck

Thank you both for the success stories for our age group. You are both doing incredibly well and I can't wait to get sleeved and join in your success.

Hi, sleeved April 12, 84lb down and 16 lb to go ( currently age 54). It has been a slow but sure journey for me.

There is another thread on here called 'where are the 50s' and you will see lots of posts from people age 50 plus detailing the good, bad and ugly of their journeys.

I am a Revision from Lapband to Sleeve... and I am sooooo glad that I did it! Feeling so much better and feeling good about myself! My biggest issue is my mental image of myself is still fat. I keep ordering the wrong size clothes, because I believe no way can I fit into that... and then I get the item and it is too big! I work at a resort and we have alot of repeat guests... so, I am hearing "didn't recognize you"... which I don't get tired of hearing! Good luck to you!

I was 50 when I had surgery three years ago (tomorrow). I've lost 85 pounds, 23 prior to surgery. I reached my goal in six months. I've been maintaining for 2.5 years with no problems. Life is so much different now. Just wait. Go buy a disposable camera and have someone take a picture of you the day before surgery, then take one on your surgery date every month. After your one year anniversary, take the camera to be developed. Lay those pictures side by side. It is shocking to see the transformation there laying in front of you. It was one of the most "fun" things I did!!! Good luck, you are in for the wildest ride you've ever been on, enjoy every single minute!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
