Holly 8 Posted May 3, 2013 I had surgery on Tuesday the 30th. I got to come home on Wednesday and ever since I've been running a fever. Is this normal?
sherrypep 91 Posted May 3, 2013 I would call your doctor right away. A fever can be a sign of some sort of infection. I have never heard of anyone having a fever afterwards.

Holly 8 Posted May 3, 2013 I called surgeons nurse. She told me to rotate pain meds and tylenol, also said she would page my surgeon and let him know. But that normally they don't get roo concerned unless fever gets to 101.
nursepez 152 Posted May 3, 2013 I had a fever and ended up staying an extra night in the hospital. My fever was due to several things...not getting up to walk enough...not using my Inspirometer to help my lungs rid themselves of the anesthesia and because I wasn't getting in enough fluids. Im slow to metabolize anesthesia...so had trouble waking up enough to do all those things. Once I was fully awake...started walking...drinking...and inflating my lungs...my fever went away. Holly 8 Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks. I told the nurse I was havin trouble with intake and had a headache and until I got the phenagren it was hard for me to keeo anything from feeling like it was coming up. I hope its that I was starting to get dehydrated and that I can fix that.
nursepez 152 Posted May 3, 2013 Dehydration can easily cause your temp to go up. Push those fluids.
Holly 8 Posted May 3, 2013 Yes I'm working on that! Thank you. I kind of thought that may have something to do with it.
