What to eat....

Recommended Posts

My doctor said that after surgery you have liquids for 3 weeks and then on mashed...no solids until after the 6 weeks. What are some of the foods, juices, etc, you can recommend. Is their a site for recipes? I'm thinking alot of diet shakes, juice, broth, etc. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you

I enjoyed having creamy Soups during my 2nd week post surgery... I regularly had smoothies/milkshakes etc... my favorite..was low fat milk, banana, tsp honey, tsp malt, all blended together until smooth... but I also blended bananas/yoghurt/orange juice together to make a great smoothy...

Jeez, that is brutal--6 weeks?! Each doctor is different but my post-op situation was not that harsh. For mushies I fell in love with vegetarian refried Beans, cream of wheat, low-fat/low-sodium cream Soups etc. Plus, a lot of people in my support group said they had no problem blending up regular foods like meatballs w/ sauce and chilli (not my thing but some people can handle the look, especially if they're hungry enough!)

I was banded on the 12th May and up to now have lost 28lb with three fills. Everyone is different but, does anyone know what quantity of food should be eaten through out the day. I know if you have the bypass the quantity of food are just a few spoonfuls at time. I can eat more or less anything except certain meats like pork or ham and tomatoes which tend to get stuck and give me a really bad headache and I also get a pain in my shoulder if I have eaten too much but after about an hour or so I start feeling hungry again. When I get the right fill will I only be eating a couple of spoonfuls at each meal? I still get very hungry.

I was told, and follow these instructions, 1 cup of food 3 times per day with 2 - 3 Snacks.

For instance this is what I ate yesterday:

B - 1 shredded wheat biscuit with 1/4 cup milk and a drizzle of honey

S - 4 crackers with low fat cheese

L - 2 small pieces of toasted rye bread with 2 ounces of sliced smoked turkey sausage, 1/2 cup of vegetable Soup.....didn't eat all of the bread...ate everything else first and could only manage part of one slice of the bread

S - 1/8 wedge of canteloupe with a tablespoon of low fat yogurt

D- 1 cup of venison stew - 3 small pieces of venison, fall type vegetables, homemade

S - 1 ounce of scotch neat.....LOL (I know, I know...empty calories...but I treat myself every once in a while)

Hope this helps, Carol

I really try to eat at least 1,000 to 1,200 per day but sometimes its not easy. I'm always careful to eat food choices that will benefit me the most like Protein, some dairy and vegetables. It is also important to know that you need to eat a required amount of calories in order to aid in your weight loss.....eating too few calories is counter productive...you will force your body to move into starvation mode. The body is capable of losing only 2lbs of body fat / day, if you are losing more than that it is coming from lean body tissue and muscle mass. Strong healthy muscles are needed to increase and maintain metabolism which will aid in your weight loss. So, exercise as well as feed your body properly to keep those muscles strong.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
