I am still considering VSG - 90% decided.

I drink Protein Shakes regularly now, as I go to the gym frequently and play basketball. It has always been overeating that kept me fat.

Did everyone's taste change so readily after surgery, or is this only something for a small percentage? I can't imagine all of a sudden not enjoying the flavour of the shakes I drink now.

I haven't noticed any change at all, for anything that I eat or drink. Some come here and say that happens, but I must be a different type of mutant. I liked the brand of Protein Shake that I use. (Premier). I drank them for a long time before surgery was a thought, and still drink them today.

Look up Ghrelin. That should make you feel better. The (removed) stomach makes it... so... you should be less hungry.

Between the liquid diet and the ghrelin removal, I couldn't stand sweet stuff for quite a while post surgery. I like chocolate and some sweets now, but it's a whole different level of "like" than it was pre-op. I can take it or leave it for the most part. I'm actually on a mission now to de-sugar my life completely on the advice of my surgeon. He claims that sugar is by far the worst ingredient in the American diet and I definitely see his point. I don't crave fatty foods, but I definitely crave sugar for days when I allow it into my diet.

The way certain things taste definitely changed for me. It has been a great thing for me though. I used to really hate a lot of vegetables and love the artificial sugary stuff. now I crave vegetables a lot and anything that has a lot of chemicals or artificial flavors tastes terrible. It is pretty great to not like the things that could get me into trouble.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
