Surgery on 12-19-06!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I'm getting very excited about my upcoming lap-band surgery on 12/19/06!

What a Christmas gift I'm giving myself! smiley-christmas.png

Believe it or not, the only person I've told about this so far is my orthodontist, because I don't want to hear anyone's negative comments before I have the procedure done. I'm hoping that my teeth will be straight at about the time I've lost all of my weight (I'm only two months in to a 28-month treatment plan).

I went out and bought some high Protein powdered drink mix, Tums for Calcium, and a chewable Multivitamin today. I also stocked up on sugar and fat-free Jello and Jello pudding, Tomato Soup, chicken broth, and sugar-free popsicles. I think I'm just about ready!

I'm not especially worried about the surgery, but I'm just hoping I won't have complications and have to stay at the hospital for more than a day.

My new year is going to REALLY be a new year! 8_6_31.gif

Good for you. I have been thinking about getting braces to go along with my banding, for that full fledged "under construction" feel. Im also a lil afraid that when I loose my weight my teeth will look GIANT. I have a nice sized overbite thats hidden by my cheeks.

I hope everything goes grat for you!

Well, the one benefit of having the braces now is that when they get tightened, my teeth feel loose and all I can eat is soft food any way! I'm wondering if I'll even recognize myself when all of this is done!

Hey my surgery is right after yours on 12/20. I am soooo nervous but very excited. I love this site but reading some of the complications really makes it harder for me to stay calm. Any advise??

Well, I just met with my doctor today for my pre-op visit. He said that he has never had to do an "open" lapbanding procedure before, he never has to give blood transfusions, and no one has ever died from this procedure in his practice. He said I'll be sore, especially on the first day, but that the recovery goes a whole lot faster than the gastric bypass.

He also said that if I am one of the banders who "gets it" right away, meaning someone who strictly follows the diet and exercises regularly, that I should have wonderful results. One of his patients has already lost 90% of the weight she needs to lose and she's only 9 months out!

I have to say that I am not excessively concerned because I know I will be in good hands! :clap2:

Good luck with your surgery! I went to the Weight Loss Center in Newport News for my seminar with Dr Terricina aswell and had decided to go with him, though my insurance may not allow it.

I cant wait to here back from you as to how great things with , I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this doctor.

:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
