3 weeks post op need help with pureed stage

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am three weeks post op and on pureed stage for 5 more weeks:( ughhh. Im not very hungry but need help with ideas, a few bites satisfies me, yay. So far i ahve had chicken, a meat ball, scrambled egg, chili, and have done well. The pureed stage does not look very appetiting and im wondering if other post op people chewed food really well or actually pureed food? Any good food suggestions?

You can try things like egg beaters (very high in Protein, can even be added to shakes/smoothies) FF Ricotta ( sweetened & add vanilla, or seasoned like you would for stuffed shells and add a little low-carb sauce)

Flan:

1/4-1/3 Cup of Splenda or other no-calorie sweetener

1 1/2 Cups Skim Plus

3/4 Cup egg substitute

1 tsp. vanilla

  • Mix all
  • Spray a ceramic bowl or pan with nonstick spray. place into a larger shallow pan.
  • Pour in the above mixture.
  • place in oven and add hot Water to the larger pan, 1/2 way up the inner pan.
  • Bake at 300* till a knife inserted comes out clean.

Custard

2 Cups Skim Plus

3/4 cup egg substitute

1/4-1/3 Cup no calorie sweetener

1/2 tsp vanilla

pinch of salt

Optional: 1/8 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, 1 Tbsp instant tapioca.

  • Combine all.
  • stir constantly till just about to boil over VERY low heat

Egg Nog

1 cup Skim Plus

1/4 cup Egg substitute (Make sure it says that it is pasteurized)

1 Tbsp no calorie sweetener

1/2 tsp vanilla

1/2 Tbsp FF/SF vanilla instant pudding powder

Mix all ingredients.

Hint: If you want a shake just put into a blender with 5-6 ice cubes. Can also top with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Here is a recipe that can be used from the puree phase (I still eat it) tastes like cannoli cream

1 Cup of fat free ricotta

1 TBSP fat free/sugar free instant pudding mix (vanilla, cheesecake, etc…)

1/3 Cup of water

1/6 Cup powdered milk

1/2 to 1 tsp. extract (vanilla, rum, almond, etc…)

Blend all in a blender or bullet.

Nutrition for the whole thing (it is actually 3-4 meals for me)

Wow...that's a long purée stage! Try googling it - I found some great stuff that way. Also try looking up the blog "The World According to Eggface" - Shelly has great ideas. You can also search the threads here as well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
