bringiton 68 Posted May 1, 2013 I like the Quest bars - good taste but expensive. I liked Luna bars before surgery. What does everyone else like?? Sent from my iPhone using VST
Tv22120 19 Posted May 1, 2013 How soon are you supposed to eat Protein Bars? I am 5 days post op. A friend of mine who had the surgery last year let me try a couple she ordered online called chocolite.
bringiton 68 Posted May 1, 2013 Not really sure when but I didn't try one until 7 weeks out. I was cleared for regular foods at six weeks. Even now I can only eat 1/2 of one at a time. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Protein Bars should not be eaten until you are released to eating solid food again (not soft or puréed) They are a good option for those emergency situations when nothing else is available. 3 melodymouse, MrsG and ProudGrammy reacted to this
avanti 92 Posted May 1, 2013 I've tried Big 100, Cliff, Luna, Atkins, Special K.. liked them.. and then looked at the label (old habits die hard ) they have too much sugar Right now.. I like the Pure Protein ones... so far these are the ones i found that have higher Protein to calorie ratio.. (and a little less carbs than the others) they are a bit chewy for my liking.. but then that allows me to chew longer..so no complaints.. http://www.amazon.co...re protein bars PS: My surgeon OKied me for protein bars.. 6 weeks post op.. (the main reason being.. I could not keep any of the Protein shakes down post op.. they still make me gag.. )
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted May 1, 2013 I haven't eaten any since surgery. I think they will be like cookies/cake/candy to me, which is crack to me! I can tolerate all foods and have a Protein Shake I like, so I haven't had the need.
Justsleevin49 12 Posted May 1, 2013 This topic was very helpful, would like to find Protein bars that are low in sugar to supplement when I am on the go. Have tried some, but none so far that tasted that good. Maybe need to freeze them?
doreen70 268 Posted May 1, 2013 I tried Atkins advantage. The actual digestible carb per bar is about 5 gms. Protein was 16 gms.
MrsG 329 Posted May 1, 2013 I love the Quest bars, I know they cost a bit more but I don't eat them every day. I love that they have 20 gms of Protein and only 170 calories! I like the cliff bars As well. Luna isn't too bad either.
JonB 114 Posted May 1, 2013 Quest bars are also high in Fiber. They are very filling and take a long time to eat. They are not like candy bars - they have the chewy consistency of a tootsie roll. If you can, I recommend microwaving them for 15 seconds.
melodymouse 196 Posted May 1, 2013 I use the Pure Protein bars available at several places. Best prices: costco and Walmart. I didn't start eating them til 6 months post op. Protein Bars are dense and dry as a rule and require that I drink extra Fluid or things get blocked up.
