LillianneMcBeth 1 Posted May 1, 2013 Hi, wondering if anyone has had the sleeve surgery & a Nissan Fundoplication (for hiatal hernia) at the same time? I suspect I have a hiatal hernia & I'm close to my surgery date. I'm just worried that my surgeon is going to make me have the Nissan first and separately and THEN do the sleeve....ugh......Thanks in advance for any info.. rebecca_dsu 241 Posted May 1, 2013 Several people have mentioned in the forums of having hiatal hernias fixed during their sleeve operation. I don't think you have to worry about them making you have 2 surgeries You can also use the "search" function (on the menu bar where it says forums, community, photos, etc...) and search the forums for other threads where people have mentioned this. Good luck!
TES 858 Posted May 1, 2013 Yes, my surgeon repairs hiatal hernias in about 90% of his VSG patients--so it is very common.
Izuri 428 Posted May 2, 2013 I'm not sure the exact name of the repair my surgeon did, but I had a hiatal hernia and it was repaired at the same time. I don't think that I had any additional recovery time or issues due to the repair. I actually didn't even know I was going to have it until it was already done, though he had let me know it was a possibility.
TheRealMeIsHere! 863 Posted May 2, 2013 Did you have your endoscopy, yet? That is sometimes checked before getting surgery clearance. If/when they do that, they will be able to see if you have a hernia. Then your doc will let you know if he does it as a separate surgery or not.
