delta_girl 931 Posted May 1, 2013 Go with sashimi and edamame and miso Soup. A lot of sushi rolls have mayo in them, and sugar added to the rice mixture. If you do eat a sushi roll or nigiri, try to pass off half of the rice to a side plate.
Losin4good 690 Posted May 1, 2013 I am 8 1/2 months post op and one of my biggest fears pre op was giving up sushi. I assure you, sushi will not be gone forever! But i will say that i have a much different relationship with rice as i used to have. I eat sushi once a week. I mostly order sashimi. But usually have 1 or 2 pieces of a roll my husband orders. And sometimes i dont even want any. I am perfectly fine eating sushi with no rice. I still love sushi. And i am glad that i didnt have to give it up forever. But i am not obsessed with needing rice like i used to be 1 LisaLoseAlotx2 reacted to this

Losin4good 690 Posted May 1, 2013 Oh, and my favorite sushi chef is more happy to accommodate my new ways of eating. She will make me a mini sashimi or if she makes me a roll she uses less rice.

I have regular sushi but will only eat three pieces and then I am full. 1 Losin4good reacted to this
Losin4good 690 Posted May 1, 2013 The only way I can eat fish is smothered in ketchup or with rice >.< I'm going to be so miserable You will be surprised. Your relationship with food can change. Before surgery i couldnt understand how people could actually order no rice with their sushi, not eat the bread on the table at restaurants or not drink diet coke everyday. But now i can understand. I can do all of those things. I can also choose to eat some rice, or have a small piece of the bread on the table. if i want some i can have a small amount and walk away. But i dont have this strong desire for it anymore. And i dont feel deprived or miserable. And the amount of sugar in sushi rice isnt that bad. I have a severe intolerance to sugar since surgery and i have never reacted bad to sushi rice. 1 mistysj reacted to this
Gregory Donlin 7 Posted May 8, 2013 Yeah this has been a struggle for this Filipino guy giving up rice or eating small amounts. But for the most part I have been good in eating just a small amount. My eating strategy is to eat Protein first and then have some carbs.

Roxanne Hughes 10 Posted May 10, 2013 The only way I can eat fish is smothered in ketchup or with rice >.< I'm going to be so miserable I love rice too and I know I will miss it. I have been told that a lot of times you don't really even like or crave some of your favorite foods after the sleeve surgery. I can't imagine...but I hope it's true. Riverdude 1 Posted May 12, 2013 I have had Sashimi and love it. I am almost 4 weeks post op and can puree the sashimi before swallowing. I can only eat about 4 pieces after having some of the miso Soup. But I take the rest home and eat the other 4 pieces about4 hours later.
