BriDawn 79 Posted May 1, 2013 I keep waking up with a sore throat. Not like scratchy but sore in an achey, punched-in-the-throat kind of way. It goes away within a half hour of waking up. I'm 8 days post op. Could it still be related to the anesthesia? Or could it be acid reflux (something I've never had before). I don't feel like I'm burping anything up or anything. Or is this just normal when I'm adjusting to getting my liquids in? Hmm.
gibson_girl 108 Posted May 1, 2013 Same boat here. I did a saltwater gargle and TMI but so much icky stuff came out and I already feel better.
melodymouse 196 Posted May 1, 2013 They use an intubation tube during your surgery and may have scraped your throat. Something I wasn't told before hand is not only does WLS reduce the production of hunger hormone, it also reduces the production of saliva. I would wake up in pain because my mouth and throat were so dry. I started taking a bottle of Water to bed because I thought I was dehydrated. It helped to just hold the water in my mouth and let it trickle down my throat. I know for me it is the reduced saliva because I am still dealing with it at almost 15 months. Hope you feel better! I do know about the intubation tube tho, my throat hurt for a week, not to mention they had it resting on my lip and I had a big canker sore on my bottom lip for a while.
