Does anyone know what pain mess are usually given? I had hydrocodone (sp?) once after oral surgery and I hated the way it made me feel. For some reason, I get really cranky and sort of hyper. Shrug.

I was given oral Hydrocodone w. tylenol, I don't particularly care for it either. I only took it when I got home. I was on crushed Tylenol after that and was fine. Took it with a small spoonful of sugar free pudding.< /p>

I've been wondering how you take meds after surgery for a few days. They say it's rough just to drink Water, I can't imagine adding a big pill.

My surgeon sent me home with liquid lortab. So ask for the elixir if you're worried about a pill. However I ended up switching to pills because the taste of the liquid medicine made me gag horribly. But I'm SUPER sensitive to liquid meds. My mom caught me swallowing the chewable Tylenol just before I turned three. My second phrase in life was "yuck yuck double yuck" anytime I had to take an awful liquid med.

I digress, they make liquid pain meds. I'd you're concerned about a pill ask for elixir. Althought most pain pills aren't horse pills :)

I think everyone is given a liquid pain medicine of some sort. Your stomach is not able to breakdown the pill/ or the doctor does not want it to even try, for at least a week after surgery. You may be able to get something to crush up, but it is usually a nasty tasting liquid. Ask the pharmacy to add flavor. May help a little.

I was given the Mexico version of Toradol from doc and it was a sublingual. ( melt under your tongue) but I was taking my dexilant 2 days after surgery with no problems along with Tylenol if I needed it.

I was given all IV pain meds. All NSAIDS. My antibiotics, PPI and pain meds were all IV until I left the hospital. One the second night I had a headache and they gave me a shot of something stronger. I had 2 shots of heparin in my abdomen to prevent blood clots (he's very for preventing blood clots, they do this in the states in large patients also).

I was also given the Mexican tordol sublingual for pain after. I only took it here and there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
