dansgem 9 Posted April 30, 2013 I am nearly one week post op, and my d has expanded my liquid diet to I clued puréed ford pushed thru a mesh strainer. Basically, liquefy everything. So today, I was making my chocolate Protein shake, and added in a bit of Smuckers all natural creamy Peanut Butter. I tossed everything into the Ninja blender and mixed. I took a sip and swallowed. I then discovered there are minuscule pieces of peanut in the mixture. Now, I'm worried that I'm going to irreparably damage my sleeve. I called the dietician I spoke with yesterday, but I'm still worried. Any thoughts? Or ideas? Thanks from a freaked out newbie. 1 Ms skinniness reacted to this
johnlatte 1,232 Posted April 30, 2013 I doubt seriously that you did any damage. I would lay off the PB for a while though. Maybe a month or so. Don't do the crunchy type or the natural stuff you grind out at the natural food store. Stick to the plain old off the shelf stuff. Truly a sip or so isn't a big deal, just be careful going forward. 3 MrsG, PdxMan and Ms skinniness reacted to this
lizv123 389 Posted April 30, 2013 Lay off the pb. Honestly, seeds and tiny pieces can get lodged between the sutures and slow/prevent healing. I'm sure you're fine. But I'd stick to liquids for a day or so to flush out anything that may be in there. You'll be fine 3 Ms skinniness, PdxMan and melodymouse reacted to this
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted April 30, 2013 Take it one day at a time......Try to avoid seeds and nuts for at least the first 3 months. I doubt that there's any problem right now, so keep up the good work and try not to worry, after all you have spoke with your NUT and he/she didn't seem to concerned. MaDunx 4 Posted April 30, 2013 I've been eating nuts and seeds since 8 weeks with no ill effects so I shouldn't worry that you could damage anything. Advice here in the UK seems quite different to the US. My dietician (nutritionist) has encouraged a quite rapid transition to "normal" food with little or no Protein supplements. Good luck, take care
MrsG 329 Posted April 30, 2013 They have a Peanut Butter powder called PB2 and its good for mixing in Protein drinks. I actually ordered mine on eBay and it was pretty inexpensive. I doubt you hurt anything but for the first few weeks I would stay away from Peanut Butter, the crunchy kind anyway. Also, peanut butter has a lot of calories which is another reason I use the PB2.< /p>

melodymouse 196 Posted May 1, 2013 I would also recommend staying away from PB. Too much fat especially this early out. One of the purposes of the stages of the post op diet is to "prime" your system for maximum weight loss. Don't sabotage yourself by eating the same old junk. Things higher in fat digest much slower and will in turn slow your weight loss. =(
lizv123 389 Posted May 1, 2013 PB2 is a wonderful investment an substitute! I for it for $4ish at my local health food store. It's for half the calories of reduced fat Peanut Butter, there are no crunchy bits, and I use it or peanut butter chocolate Protein balls when I need a sweet fix
dfdscott 53 Posted May 1, 2013 chocolate Protein balls??? Recipe???? 1 lizv123 reacted to this
lizv123 389 Posted May 1, 2013 It's floating around somewhere on this site, if you search you can find a specific recipe. I make them in bulk and freeze them. I used one jar reduced fat Peanut Butter (or the PB2 equivalent), and 3-4 scoops chocolate Protein powder. Skip your arm workout for a day because you'll get it mixing it all together then roll into balls. Pop in tupperware and refrigerate (or freeze if you make a lot) mine have roughly 10-12 grams of Protein per ball.
lizv123 389 Posted May 1, 2013 Ok so my memory sucked, its been awhile since I made a batch Original post started by angel313 3/4 cup Peanut Butter 2-3 scoops chocolate Protein powder Yields 11 balls 10 grams of Protein If you use PB2 (and body fortress protein powder) 68 cals 5.9 carbs 2.3 g sugar 10.2 grams of protein Body fortress is the Walmart stuff. Like I said, I'm cheap lol The balls are good, to my fiancé and guy friends they say they're grainy but for "health food" they're good. It's my Reese's fix. And I've caught my God children sneaking some of their mother's I make her since she's going through chemo. The balls are between ping pong/golf ball size.
