How to Research a Doctor in MX

Recommended Posts

http://wasabubblebutt.blogspot.com/2010/03/researching-mexican-or-us-sleeve.html

I was meandering and found this link in an old post from 2011?

Felt it would be a good idea to repost for those who are thinking of going to MX but not knowing where to start. There is some great information in here.

Great link. I used that one. One of the links is broken but if you google the name, the real link will come up. I think it's the licensing link.

Since I can't read - or speak - Mexican, I used Google translate. It's awesome. With some pages you can just enter the link into the translate box and it will give you the whole web page in English.

To verify certificates and licenses - Dr. Lopez has images of his degrees, training, and licenses posted - I just typed the Spanish words into the box to see what they said.

With organizations and associations, I went to their webpage and verified membership.

With training organizations, if you email them, even in English, they'll answer you about applicable training.

I really encourage people to do their research. I know everybody loves their doctors, but things change, and none of us are in Mexico. Take it one step further, use Google translate, verify licenses, verify training, and contact hospitals. One surgeon people love doesn't even have his surgical license anymore - I have no idea why, I didn't check - and has had serious complications and I read about people still using him. All adults have the right to their own medical decisions, but they deserve full knowledge and awareness, and with our doctor's being in Mexico, that's harder to get.

Here are two surgeons with the prestigious FACS which is a US designation. You can not get this without rigorous investigation into your surgical outcomes.

You can also check with the American College of Bariatrics. I know Dr Kelly is a member and I'm sure someone who knows more about Dr Aceves can chime in.

Look for professionals with prestigious credentials. They have rigorously done their homework for you. And don't forget to pray, read reviews, and go with your gut (no pun intended lol).

I think my links above are broken, here are the correct ones.

http://web2.facs.org/acsdir/public/DetailMember.cfm?CHKDGTS=70304750667

http://web2.facs.org/acsdir/public/DetailMember.cfm?CHKDGTS=18700144761

Just go to the FACS website and see if your Dr is on there as well as the American College of Baiatrics.

Cerenatee, I find it extremely unlikely that a Dr is practicing in MX without being a licensed surgeon. Is there any proof of this? Mexico has standards for their Drs and don't let them operate without a license, just like in the US.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
