lilac lass 34 Posted April 30, 2013 Hi, I am just under 5 months from having my surgery. It was a great success and I am so thrilled I did it. During my surgery, they repaired a hiatial hernia I was unaware that I had and I don't want to get another one. My mom had one and developed an esophagus condition ( Barrett's esophagus) because of it. This weekend, I started having heartburn. I am taking Pepcid twice a day. I am not doing anything differently but the heartburn is in the middle of the night and up to 6 am. I am looking at my diet. I was eating some cinnamon sugar free mints in the evening and stopped that. The heartburn continued. I was taking Celebrex which my doctor allowed and I stopped it. The heartburn continued. When it happens, I have taken an antacid but it comes right back. Any ideas before I call my doctor ( husband out of work and don't want to spend $ on office visit if I can avoid it)? mrdr 247 Posted April 30, 2013 I took a couple of heartburn meds until i found one that worked. I take lansoprazole once a day I order it from Amazon for 20$ for a 3 pack of 14 day treatment per bottle so that about 42 pills. I take it everyday faithfully. Hope this helps. and i am 5 months out as well.
SMO 193 Posted May 1, 2013 Not all PPI medicine works for every person. You may just need a different kind. I can use just about anything, but only Protonix works for my husband. Also, how close to bedtime are you eating? I have never been able to eat and lay down without having reflux. Also, acidic foods give me heartburn now. Are you drinking lemonade or eating tomatoes or anything else high in acid?
SMO 193 Posted May 1, 2013 Are you taking a PPI at all? I saw you mentioned pepcid, but I think that is just an antacid.
