I have two areas of pain at my lower ribs on front right and left side that mysteriously showed up last week. Have not injured either of these areas.

After some googling, others with similar symptoms are indicating costochronditis. Maybe some inflammation issue or some other internal issue. Some even said ulcer may cause this. I have stopped taking nsaids about the same time this pain mysteriously appeared. Just a coincidence that the two happened at the same time, but I really do not think there is causation or correlation.

Otherwise feeling good with energy and keep an active fitness schedule 6 days a week of running and cross fit. Anyone know anything about this who is in the medical field? I really do not want to pay the PCP yet another visit and pay yet another copay.

I thought costochronditis was a breathing problem? Well, obviously I don't know, but I do hope it goes away soon!

It looks like it is not an issue to get too concerned about and will remedy on its own or with OTC meds.

I've recently had what I chalked up as being costochondritis. The bottom of my sternum was super sore and tender, especially upon palpation, as were a couple of ribs. I could feel the soreness in my chest cavity when I laid on my stomach or stood/sat with poor posture. The discomfort lasted for about three weeks and has now eased up on its own.

While there are various causes, it is my understanding that it doesn't necessarily have to have an exact cause. It can take several weeks for the tenderness to subside. If the soreness keeps getting worse, without relief, it would be a good idea to seek medical attention.

I hope it eases up quickly for you!

ETA: You might want to take it easy with any strenuous activities until the soreness has subsided. Intense exercise could exacerbate the inflammation.

Hope you are feeling better. I had pain in a similar area, more over my sternum through to my back. My doc thought costochondritis and gave me strong NSAIDs.

Misdiagnosis, it was oesophagitis and possibly beginning s of an ulcer (meds made it much worse!)

Stopped all my nsaids (have never taken them since) started omeprazole.

I got such a fright that i have never taken anti-inflamatory meds since (had knee and foot pain) and was amazed to discover that I could get by without, partly due to "walking through the pain"

Since i was sleeved knee and foot pain almost completely gone.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
