How much can you lose?

Recommended Posts

My doctor said that with sleeve people can lose only 65% of their weight. I'm 5'5" and weigh 290. That would only get me to around 200 pounds which isn't good enough in my book. I'm seeing such different results here. Why the difference? Help! Did I make the wrong choice or should I go for the switch???

As long as you follow your eating plan and exercise you can lose as much weight at you need to lose. The sleeve is only a tool, it isn't going to magically take the weight away. The stomach size is reduced, and the amount of food you can intake will be reduced. If you continue to eat high calorie foods, even with the sleeve you will either slow down the weight loss or you will not lose the weight. The hardest part is getting your eating habits under control and getting the right amount of exercise. It is very easy to eat around the sleeve. The amount of weight you lose depends on you, not the surgery.

I was actually approved for the switch from my ins. My surgeon has done the sleeve part and is hoping that's all I need. However if I stop losing weight and I'm doing all I can she can go back in and complete the switch. I'm praying I can do it all with the sleeve. I don't want another surgery. So far so good, at my 3 month weigh in I've lost 80lbs. I was 413 day of surgery and am now 333 as of a week ago. And other ppl on here have lost a lot so I'm hopeful! :)

The way my doctor explained it to me was that it roughly 65% of your excess weight so if you were 100 lbs overweight you would lose 65 lbs BUT He also explained that it is an average and that some people lose more ad some less it all depends on the determination of the individual. There are people on here who lose all of their excess weight I am planning on being one.

That makes much more sense to me that way. I hope to be one of those people who lose it all too! Thanks!!
