T minus 30 days and counting to Dr ACEVES

Recommended Posts

To start my countdown to a May 28 date with Dr Aceves. I did something today I know I will NEVER be able to do again, and I will miss it (although I only do it a couple times a year). That being ALL U CAN EAT BABYBACK RIB night at my local BQ joint. I can cross the 5* Vegas buffets off my future also. It just wouldn't be economic to pay that much and eat so little. The ribs were GREAT, fall off the bone and juicy. But alas, I know I need to "get my weight under MY control" (less 100lbs is my goal) and getting "sleeved" is part of a PLAN to live healthier and LONGER. I just hope I don't get hit by a Mexican bus when I cross back over the border. In truth, the reason I picked the "sleeve" besides it's advancements in surgery over past techniques ? Is that it does allow you to eat NORMAL food, and live a NORMAL life AFTER you reach your goal.. You can got out (or at least I will be able to a year out) with friends and EAT. You just have to split a beer and nibble at a couple of chicken wings. But at least I CAN (or will be able to eventually).

I had my surgery last August 31 with Dr. Aceves and was really happy with the care I received from him and his staff. I love/loved ribs (especially beef ones) but the pork ones just sit in my stomach like a rock now. And yeah, one rib fills me up. I haven't tried beer b/c of the carbonation though.

I didn't think about that ? Might have to let it go flat ?

Feeling a bit guilty this morning, but man those ribs were good !! But that is sort of my point about the "sleeve" vs any of the other surgical choices ?? The "sleeve" just makes KISS sense. You don't touch the opening going IN, and you don't touch the hole going OUT !! You (make that our surgeon) simply reduces the size of our stretched out stomach, without the complications of nutrient non-absorbtion or "dumping syndrome" Who wants a Al Roker moment where he pooped his pants at the White House ? And the Lap Band never did make much sense if you only ate ice cream milk shakes ? And notice the number of band to sleeve surgeries we see ? So we have all choosen to be "sleeved" so we can drink a flat beer and nibble on one or two ribs with our friends once in awhile. It is a tremendous change in our lives and lifestyles, but it is a life worth living. I am not sure a life of eating gerbers is ? But they say you enter life wearing a diaper, and you exit life wearing a diaper ? or you can run with the bulls in Spain ? O-lay

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
