Hi! My name is suzy and I am having surgery Wednesday. (the sleeve)

I found myself having second thoughts after learning about redundant skin. But I feel this surgery is what's best for me. any suggestions on how to help tighten up the excess skin? Please advise...

I've been using organic coconut oil I bought at Trader Joes. You can also pick it up at Publix in the cooking oil aisle. So far so good. Cost is about $20 a jar and it goes a long way.

Would you rather have flappy skin or filled out with fat skin?

Not trying to be flip (ok, well....just a little), but that's the bottom line. No matter how you lose weight, you are going to have skin.

Drink Water, Water, and Oh did I mention water!!! It helps put the elasticity back into your skin. BUT depending on how big you were when you started you might have the extra skin regardless(which is the case for me unfortunately). Good luck!!!!

As soon as you are cleared to exercise...do it! And drink a ton of Water, just slowly. Remember, after surgery walk as soon as you can. It will really help with gas pain. Good luck.

Do you put the coconut oil on your skin or do you eat it as in coffee or or other ways. My sister is really pro coconut oil. Is giving it to 95 year old with dementia and is seeing great results with cognition. She puts it in coffee, melts and puts in yogurt and in shakes. Ideas -- how do you use it for the skin issues?

Wow! Really? coffee? ?? Hmmmmm!!! I do use it to cook with at times but I have been rubbing it everyday on my tummy arms and legs and massaging it on my scars too. Not saying it will take complete care of sagging skin but it sure helps. Plus I'm losing only 2 lbs a week which I'm happy about because it gives my skin a chance to "catch up" with the weight loss. And I smell like a coconut too!! ????????????

Hi,

I'm new to the group. I have been on a wait list for 4 years for VSG surgery in my province. I finally have my very first appointment to get the process started, next week! I'm so excited about this. I've been researching like crazy, and feel this is the right tool for me. I am enjoying reading all of the posts in here. :)

Hey Suzy, I'm getting sleeved on Thursday! ;)

I've got a whole arsenal of products to try - coconut oil, argan oil, shea butter and firming lotion. I'm not sure any of them are really going to work because of how much weight I have to lose, but keeping hydrated is the best way to help yourself as much as you can. Hydrate with Water inside, with oils/lotions outside.

I think the key is to look for quality products that have as few ingredients as possible. Especially with oils, read the label, a lot of times they are "cut" with other chemicals so you're not going to benefit as much from using them.

Hello! Thanks for the recommendations! Had my surgery on may 1st. I'm glad I did it! About to go for a walk. I hope you're feeling better after your surgery on! Best of luck to you always :-)!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
