Banded August 2012 & only lossed 30 lbs.

Recommended Posts

Okay, let me begin by saying Hello. I was banded in 2006 - pre weight 287, in 18 months in lossed 120 lbs. Maintained 167 lbs for 4 yrs. Then my esophagus became enlarged and in Jan 2011, my doctor removed all my Fluid and I regained 63 lbs. over the next year. So in Aug 2012, I had a revision to VSG. and it has been 9 months and I have lossed 30 lbs. I know I should have lossed more. I was told since I had the band that the weight loss would be slower, but I feel I should have lost more than 30 lbs. This month I have had labwork and seen my doctor last week and he told me to give it time. But when I look at others in 6 months they have lossed 80 to 90 lbs. This is starting to be frustrating. And I go to the gym 3 times a week and walk 30 mins at least twice a week. And I am not sure whats going on. Have anyone experience this with having a revision?

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix the situation?

Please Help!!!!!!!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
