Was anyone not a snacker before surgery?

Recommended Posts

I've watched my eating habits for a long time and I can honestly say that I'm not a snacker. I overeat during meals, yes, that's my very bad habit. I'll overeat a lot. I used to drink my calories in juice too but have since stopped buying juice before surgery. But in between meals? No. I don't snack. I don't like snack foods either. Just 3 meals a day.

Was anyone else like this? How did it fare after surgery for you? Did you suddenly get the urge to graze or something afterward?

Everyone says snacking is the devil and since I never did that in the first place, I'm worried I'll pick that habit up

I almost never snacked before surgery and in fact, I often only ate 2 meals per day (bad habit--would then eat too much bc I skipped a meal). Now I usually eat 3 meals and 1 snack, because your stomach gets empty sooner after eating bc the capacity is smaller. My RD said that 3 meals a day isn't really realistic unless someone sleeps a lot... lol. So if I eat b-fast an hour after I get up (I take synthroid and have to wait an hour to eat), I might eat at 7 am, noon, 3 pm and 6 or 6:30. Seems to work okay. My one snack is usually something like a few ounces of Greek yogurt or a string cheese. I'm pretty used to it now. I think of it more as 4 mini-meals and not really a snack. I feel better having a more steady blood sugar level than I did pre-surgery since I am eating more regularly.

That's good to know! I would be open to doing something like that!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
