Tmi... Birth Control... After surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies... I met with a gyn who recommended me the nuva ring vs mirena. What kind of bc are you guys using. And how do you like it. Thanks for sharing.

I had a ring. Hated it. I took the pill for about 20 years (ages 13 - 35ish) to control my heavy flow and after all that time, you'd think I'd mastered taking it daily. As soon as I got the ring, I popped it in (HA! As if it is THAT easy!) and forgot about it. It would be in there for 45 days, 60 days, etc. Never did I remember to change it.

My Mirena, I LOVE. I am on my second one. My period is one pink wipe every few months, my debilitating cramps are gone, it lasts for 5 years with no problems and it took about 15 seconds for my doc to insert. It hurts like a b***h on the way out, but that only takes about 30 seconds, too, so it's totally worth it.

I have no idea how to pop this in lol. Gyn told me to tell my bf to do it for me. I always forget to take them and I originally asked for the IUD but she recommended that instead. Oh and she's never heard of the vsg which concerned me a little. Her recommendation was to according to my sleeve.

Nah. My surgeon couldn't care less about my IUD. His quote was that he's "not operating down there" so it doesn't matter.

Lol

I'm afraid of the IUD cause I hear If you haven't had kids they have to inspect to see if its going to fit right but I don't want anything falling out or going through walls >.< I have never had kids so I chose the shot but I have been on it for years and If used for a long time it can cause bone density. So idk what to use now, I hated the ring and I can't remember pills lol

I never had kids either. She told me mirena is for women who've never had children. I'm not a fan of birth control period. The side effects sound awful for all of the, and I don't want to minimize any chance I have of having babies in the future. But for now I don't want to get pregnant until after my 1 year surgiversary.

I am 25 and childless and I have paraguard, which is the copper IUD that you can have for up to 10 years. I love it.

It didn't change my flow at all, which was fine, and was uncomfortable for the first week or two with cramps, but has been going great for almost 4 years, and I know I can get it out at any time.

I think I'd have a problem with the ring, and I KNOW I've had problems with pills. I'm not great at remembering them.

My doctors didn't care about my IUD either. I just had to tell them that I had it. They said that they like it when patients have IUDs because they have fewer accidental pregnancies during the 'sweet period' after surgery for weight loss.

I had the paraguard for a couple years with absolutely no problems. Mine was put in without any problems or pain right at my midwife's office. No increase in cramping or spotting. I had a tubal ligation which is why I don't have it anymore. If for some reason I had to go back to needing birth control I would definitely go back to it. There is no way I want to take the pill anymore, it makes me an absolutely psycho beach! And I definitely don't want something that my husband would have to put in or I would have to remember to put in.

I have been on oral bc for 10+ years and sometimes forget. So last year, I decided to try to Nuvaring. I have huge fibroids and I told my gyn about them, but she wasn't worried. I had the ring in for 2 weeks and noticed it would slip and become very uncomfortable. I'd have to take it out and reinsert it. This happened about 3x. On the the 3rd time, I noticed that stuff didn't feel right, like extra tissue I hadn't noticed before. Well, the ring was so close to a fibroid that it caused it to grow and it was pushing down on my uterus, making it prolapse. I took it out and luckily, the prolapse fixed itself after a few months. Needless to say, I'll be sticking to orals from now on!

Ive never had kids either...I love my mirena. I was on depo for 2 years and I got off because of weight gain. The hormones in mirena are more located centrally in your lady area so that usually isn't an issue. The insertion was a little painful I'm not gonna lie but they can give you something to relax your cervix and it doesn't hurt as much.

I used depo for several years and never had a problem. LOVED IT. I got off it so that I could get pregnant. It took about a year to do so.

I did use the Nuva-ring ONCE. I did not even last the month. It gave me the yeast infection from HECK! and it hurt like heck getting it out too. I don't recommend it at all.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
