I am having Surgery May 6th and was wondering how long after I have to wait before tanning in tanning bed??? Anyone know?

I have heard that it will turn the scars are dark!

I've dove stand up tanning a few times I'm 2 mo out and I did it at 5 weeks maybe

I used a shirt/towel over the area-- it's not too bad of a diff in color- and it's just the belly lol

I'd wait at least 2.5 months before tanning that area- minimum ! :)

I am 18 months out and tan weekly. My scars don't look bad, no worse than all my stretch marks anyway.

Thanks to all for answering my question about tanning! I'm a big fan of thinking tan body is better than ghost white lol. Glad you have lost 50 already!!! Exciting! I'm so ready for May 6th

Do yourself a favor and cover them up for the first few months. I didn't and they got darker. They are starting to lighten up again but geez they were purple for a long time. Several months....

I waited just until my scars healed up which was about a month after I was sleeved and I tan 3 times a week for 20 minutes and I will say my stomach and chest get the darkest!

Well... I am a revision from a lap band but with my lap band I put band aids over my incision sites and started tanning about 2 weeks out. The look on my surgeons face at my one month post op appointment was PRICELESS! He said "we'll this is a first" but he reassured me that it was just fine. I say cover up the incision sites and enjoy. I love the feel of a tanning bed!

I just had a TT about 12 weeks ago and have been tanning for 3 weeks. I put a 50spf over the scar and haven't noticed any discoloration.

I plan to start tanning this week, I want to have tan legs so I don't have to wear any pantyhose when I put on a cute dress or a pair of shorts! I didn't wait on purpose but I'm almost 5 months po. I too love the feel of a tanning bed.

I am 8 1/2 months post op. i just started tanning a few weeks ago. I didnt wait for any specific time, thats just when tanning started to interest me again ;) must be the spring fever ;)

I had very light scars and now that my tummy is getting tan, they are basically non-existent!

The only scar that is noticeable is from my gall bladder surgery that i had a few months after vsg.

Good luck to everyone with your tanning!

I love my "me" time 2-3 times a week just laying in the tanning bed listening to music ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
