HI, I had my sleeve on April 22, 2013 in Christiana, Delaware. I say that second time worked, because in April 2007, I had the lapband and it had to be removed with emergency surgery 36 hours later because of a tear in my esophagus. It took me 5 years to seriously look at bariatrics as an option again. I am so thankful I did. My weight had skyrocked to 303 lbs in August 2012. Between the classes and the two weeks of Optifast pre-op I was down to 266 on the day of surgery. Today I weighed myself and I am down to 255. My pain initially was terrible along with lot of nausea, I did however have alot of scar tissue that had to be removed and my surgery was twice as long as the normal sleeve. I can tolerate liquids well, applesauce, cream of wheat and yogurt. Trying something new every day. No more than an ounce at a time, but that is fine with me. I didn't believe it in class, but now I am living it.and it is so true. I will continue to post with updates. This will also help keep me on track..

Hi goofyfurl

I had my band done in Delaware 7 years ago and only was able to take off 25lbs. Had I known these results before surgery, I never would have gone through with it. Had my band out this past February and I am scheduled for sleeve next month. Due to the failure of the band, I have alot of reservations so its good to hear you are doing well after your traumatic beginning with the band. Best of luck to you.

Hi MindfulWeightLoss,

Due to the scar tissue, I was told there was a possibility that the surgery could not be done or that I may have to have the surgery done open not laparascopically. I got lucky, my surgeon was able to do it through the scope, I did seem to have more pain and nausea than the others on the floor, but the hospital controlled the pain well and each day is getting better and better. Keep me posted.

Hi. I appreciate your story. I was banded October 2007. I lost 60 give-or-take pounds and then regained everything over these 5 1/2 years. I was so reluctant to try again because I didn't want to give up the dream of my own band success story and I really, really did not want another WLS surgery. I went from band to sleeve a few days before you, on April 18 and I'm down an incredible 21 pounds with only a 2 day pre-op diet. I feel better already and I'm glad I gave myself another chance at permanent weight loss success. So far, so good. I'll be looking forward to your future posts. Thanks.

I am wondering how you are doing. I feel great, eating normal food, trying to get my Protein in. I am down 27 lbs since surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
