Almost 4 months and stall... Advice.

Recommended Posts

Hi there I am almost 4 months out and have lost a total of 65 lbs but 45 after surgery I have been so happy so far. But this last month has been sloooowew and the last two weeks I have gone up and down the same 1 pound. Scared to death this is it? Is it? I am working out and tracking everything. I eat about 1200 calories a day. Could drink more Water ... I am stuck at 175... Any thoughts advice.. Experience...

I just got over an almost two month stall (started at about my fifth month and was my first stall ever!) where I kept bouncing between the same two pounds, no matter what I did! I exercised and ate right and did everything that we're supposed to do, too. I just rolled with the punches. I started to get discouraged towards the last couple of weeks, but then I got on the scale last week and BAM...4 pounds gone!

I think as far as stalls go, we just have to wait them out and keep doing what we're doing. I only weigh once a week and right before I got on the scale during the stall, I gave myself a pep talk and said "The scale probably isn't going to change and that is okay, because at least I haven't gained a crazy amount either!" Then I would get on the scale and meet my expectations of not having lost, or like last week, be pleasantly surprised at a 4 pound lost!

Good luck and don't worry! A lot of people have ideas of how to break a stall, but when it comes down to it, you just have to let your body do what it is going to do and wait it out!

Try switching things up do a 'clean day' eating only your protien no carbs no sugars, or a 'liquid day' that some times tricks your body. When I hit a stall a month ago I started c25k and I am down 15 pds this month alone. I only eat 600 cals at most get in 74 g protien and 100 oz of Water it works for me some days I have a carby day where I make sure to have a ww tortilla or crackers just to trick my body. hope this helps Best of luck!

I think this is normal, and I doubt this is it for you, as long as you continue your program. You probably don't have much farther to go, so weight loss will slow down. I think your body can only lose so fast, and it needs time to adjust. Some people just lose slower than others, too. I'm about 4 1/2 months out, and I'm experiencing the same thing. I figure as long as we are following the rules of our plan, burning more than we are taking in, then we are doing all we can. I'm not very patient, but I just remind myself of that, and it gets me through the slow periods. I find I am losing about 2 pounds a week on average over the month, but it doesn't come off evenly. Others might suggest increasing Water, protien, lowering carbs, etc. but I personally don't believe it makes much of a difference as long as we follow the basic rules of Protein first, then vegetables, then starches. You know the drill. We are in this for the long haul! Hang in there :)

I had a 4-6 ish week stall at 4 months. It wasn't the end of the world. This is for a lifetime now, not a race. It would be crazy for your body to continue extreme weight loss consistently over a long period of time. The body wants to protect itself from death. It will certainly slow down the further you get out. I have had to reconcile this as well.

Thank you all for te thoughts, I think I just needed to hear I am not alone. I don't want to starve myself or do anything crazy, I strongly am committed to this for the long haul of my lifetime. I have learned so much in 4 short months. I feel i have a much healthier relationship with food I am not perfect but that is life. I like the idea of pep talk before I step on the scale, def good to set my expectations properly. I feel good and just want to keep going. Truthfully I would be so very happy with one pound a week. I want to lose 30 more pounds. I will keep doing it all and hope I get there eventually.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
