6 weeks post-op ... what did YOU eat?

Recommended Posts

I have been researching websites all day trying to figure out what would be the best food route to take come week 6 and a lot of these websites contradict one another. One site says you can eat oranges while another states that you MUST stay away. So I come to you my fellow VST.com sleevers for a bit of advice by letting me in on your week 6 secrets :P I would really love to know what some of you ate 6 weeks out. Thanks in advance :)

As far as oranges, it's the membranes that are rough on you. You can trim those out if you want. I find mandarin oranges packed in Water are best for my orange needs! LOL I eat Campbells Soup at hand anytime I'm in a hurry. I love the Gortons Signature grilled tilapia. I grill it in a pan and after I remove them, I warm a can of whole baby carrots or french style green Beans in the same pan. Takes me less than 10 minutes to prepare and even my kids enjoy this meal. I eat chicken, tuna and eggs alot also. I normally grill a chicken breast and eat half and cut the other half up and mix with chopped sugar free bread and butter pickle, low fat mayo and a hard boiled egg. One chicken breast will yield 3 meals for me. Most salsas are good. I like fresh salsa on grilled chicken. Ham and cheese rollups are a staple for me. I use 97% fat free ham and 2% Cheese. I also spread fat free cream cheese on ham and roll it up and eat with sweet bread and butter pickles. I avoid all white carbs and use MyFitnesspal to keep track of my nutrients. I also drink 2 Protein Drinks a day. nectar fuzzy navel or strawberry kiwi are my favorites mixed with crystal light and lots of ice. I hope this helps. ..

At 6 weeks my surgeon released me to everything. There was nothing that I could not try and I did. If it didn't go well I tried another time.

I can eat most anything I want. Oranges cause no problems. The only things that cause problems are really rich sweets and if a food is really heavy - a lot of restaurant food falls into this category. I still have a hard time eating slowly and taking small bites ( a lifetime of bad habits are hard to break) but in general I can eat

what I choose.

I was released of dietary restriction at 6 weeks. I have been adding foods slowly. Not in a big hurry to eat everything. Working on making sure the good, dense Proteins are doing ok. Like grilled chicken and fish. have had a beef hamburger on the grill. Working on grilled veggies.

Have not tried bread or rice or potatoes. I have not had any refined sugar or white processed flour since Jan. and not craving it so going to stay away for a while. Next up is fresh fruits and work up to salad.

I am just taking it slow and so far not having issues.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
