3 weeks post-op any suggestion for nausea? soft foods?

Recommended Posts

Three weeks post! Today all I been dealing with with nausea. I had some chicken salad...first time didn't totally agree.....second time, I ate less, no problem.... I have had few sugar free pop sicles today.... Water.... ice tea.... but I'm feeling blah!

What can I try for soft foods?

What will help my nausea?

How do you know if you have a leak?

I am pain free, just feel head and stomach icky. Like morning sickness....

For the nausea, you might try a ginger tea - there are a number of them out there. Ginger naturally settles the stomach for many people, including me.

Peppermint tea or have your dr call you in some Reglan 5mg . You can take it 3 times a day

Does this cause drowsiness?

Crab rangoon would be EASY to do, minus the wonton wrapper and frying.

Try this (based on a crab rangoon recipe that I really like)

  • 8 ounces light cream cheese, softened
  • 5 oz crab meat, crumbled (canned is fine for this, but drain it!)
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (do this to taste - I happen to like garlic in my rangoons, but you can totally skip it if you don't like it)
  • 1 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Blend this up until smooth. Voila, the insides of the crab rangoon! If you want it a bit thicker, add more crab and it should become less cream-cheesy and a bit more crabby :)

Thus sounds good. Do you cook it in the oven or just eat it cold?

I'm pre-op, but I've had to deal with soft food diets before, and I've done a lot of research.

Thus sounds good. Do you cook it in the oven or just eat it cold?

I'd say it would be good heated, but because it's cream cheese it would probably tend to get a little loose, so I would definitely put more crab in, or add a small amount of binder of some sort. I've done something like this as a cold appetizer on cucumber chips, which is what made me think of it.

3-4 weeks out I was on puréed foods only. I put everything except the cottage cheese and yogurt in a food processor. Fat free refried Beans were so yummy. A helpful tip, remember its just like feeding a baby. Your new stomach can't handle some things. That's why we feed in stages. Try one new thing a day so you'll know what's upsetting your tummy. Feel better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
